Deodorant - our lifesaver during sweaty days or when you don't have time to shower. Deodorant is not the first thing we think of when it comes to skincare. Yet it is a product that you may use just as often as a day or night cream. Where you probably choose your day cream carefully based on your skin, it is best to do this with a deodorant. Adeodorant can really irritate your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or just after shaving. Have you ever suffered from irritating armpits or excessive sweating? Many deodorants contain ingredients such as parabens, aluminum and alcohol - ingredients that will make your skin say: better not! But there are plenty of deodorants that are okay for the skin and that actually reduce sweating.

How important is a good deodorant?

First of all: you use deodorant daily or even several times a day. For this reason alone, it is worth choosing a deodorant that is hardly or not harmful to your skin. Investing in the right deodorant can be important for two different reasons:

      1. If you suffer from excessive perspiration (sweating) then a good deodorant can really make the difference and be the solution to your 'problem'.
      2. Many deodorants have harmful ingredients, for example aluminum salts. Harmful substances can not only irritate your skin and clog your sweat glands, but also disrupt the temperature regulation in your body.

Which deodorant is suitable for sensitive skin?

For sensitive skin it is important (as with any other skincare product) that you avoid the harmful and drying ingredients. It is best to choose a natural deodorant that is free of parabens, aluminum salts, alcohol and perfume. It also works well if you choose a deodorant that is enriched with caring ingredients.TheAttitude Deodorantsare great for sensitive skin!

      How does deodorant work?

Some deodorants only have a nice scent to disguise the sweat smell. And this works fine for some, provided you are not bothered by the sweat smell of course. Many deodorants actually have a sweat-reducing function. Ingredients that absorb moisture do not give bacteria the chance to multiply. The armpit is simply too dry for that. Sweat itself has no odor, it only acquires an odor because bacteria are involved.

What is the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant?

In the Netherlands, in general, everything is called 'deodorant'. But there is a difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant. Simply put, the difference is that deodorant does not combat sweating itself, but the bacteria that cause the smell, in addition, the nice smell disguises unpleasant odors. And antiperspirant contains ingredients that counteract actual sweat production. Antiperspirant is therefore perfect if you suffer from excessive sweat. But a deodorant also works great!

Which deo can I use for excessive sweating?

If you suffer from excessive sweating, it is best to go for an antiperspirant. An antiperspirant blocks sweat production. However, in the Netherlands almost everything is simply called 'deodorant', while it does have an antiperspirant function, for example. So pay close attention to the description and packaging. How do I recognize the sensitive skin under my armpits?

You may have noticed that your armpits are irritated, or you only experience them after shaving. Are you curious whether the skin under your armpits is sensitive and whether you should really look at a different deodorant? We have a checklist below:

      • redness
      • Drought
      • flakes
      • Itchy feeling
      • Burning feeling
      • bumps

Which ingredients are harmful to under the armpit?

Many deodorants contain harmful ingredients. To make it clear, we have listed the most common, harmful ingredients for you:

      • Parabens: also listed as:methyl, ethyl, propyl and butylparabens.
      • Aluminum: many deodorants contain aluminum salt, which provides the antiperspirant effect and absorbs moisture. The biggest downside to aluminum is that your skin absorbs it so well that the ingredient also enters the bloodstream. And that has worrisome consequences for the body.
      • Propylene Glycol
      • Propellant (in spray deodorant)
      • Alcohol
      • Perfume (this does not mean that there should be no fragrance, perfume can also be natural, provided this is stated! In most cases they describe the individual ingredient & not a general umbrella name such as perfume)
      • triclosan
