What is the difference between No Yellow and No Orange Shampoo?
In the chart above, the two types of Shampoo are compared side by side. The most important factor is the pigment and its effect on your hair. No Yellow is specially developed to neutralize a yellowish tint. No Orange is a neutralizing Shampoo for unwanted warm colors, such as copper and red tones. Both Shampoos aim to create a cool look but differ in the pigment neutralization.
Should I use No Yellow or No Orange?
This mainly depends on which color tones you want to neutralize. No Yellow and No Orange neutralize your hair simply by using the pigment opposite to the color you want to get rid of. We explain this using a color wheel:

In this color wheel, you see that yellow is directly opposite violet. If you want to neutralize these yellow tones, use No Yellow because it contains violet pigments. Moving clockwise, you see yellow-orange and orange. Directly opposite are blue and blue-violet, which are the pigments in No Orange. For a bit of guidance, we’ve made an easy checklist for when to ideally use No Orange or No Yellow:
| Use No Yellow if: | Use No Orange if: |
| You have bleached, blonde, or gray hair | All hair colors, but perfect for dark hair colors |
| You want to neutralize yellow tones | You want to neutralize red, orange, or copper tones |
| You want your cool, icy/ash, gray, or blonde tones | You want your cool, natural tones |
We want to add something: whether you have blonde or dark brown hair, focus on the colors you want to neutralize and choose your shampoo accordingly. So, it can happen that as a blonde you use No Orange or as a brunette you use No Yellow. Want a clearer picture? Can my hair turn purple from the Fanola Shampoo?
If you follow the instructions, it’s almost impossible to go wrong. However, your hair can get a purple tint if its condition isn’t optimal. It also depends on your hair color. If you have light blonde hair, it’s recommended not to leave the Fanola Shampoo on for more than 2 minutes. Light blonde or bleached hair is more porous, so the pigments can penetrate your strands more easily.
Never leave the No Yellow and No Orange on for longer than 5 minutes!
My hair has turned purple… how do I fix this?
Oh no… left it on too long and now you have a purple tint? Don’t worry! You can always get it out. Usually, washing your hair with a ‘regular’ shampoo is enough. If the purple tint is still there, try washing it a few more times. Sometimes using an anti-dandruff shampoo helps too; this shampoo is a bit stronger but can help remove the purple tint from your hair. Just be careful with frequent use, as it can dry out your hair.
Do you notice that your hair is a bit sensitive and reacts strongly to the pigments? You can also mix the No Yellow or No Orange Shampoo with the Fanola Nutri Care Shampoo. This makes the effect of the purple and blue pigments a little less intense.
Can I create a purple shade with the No Yellow?
Although we mainly talk about preventing a purple tint, it may of course also be that you find this a fantastic hair color that you want to rock! We are all for it, so use the No Yellow Shampoo to create this look. To avoid an overly intense result right away, you could first leave the Shampoo on a little longer, but 5 minutes is really the max! Additionally, you could try using the Shampoo a bit more often, but don’t forget to use a nourishing conditioner then. The Shampoo contains few nourishing ingredients, so your hair can become a bit drier. A conditioner solves this problem well!
Still not the desired result? You can apply the Shampoo to towel-dried hair and leave it on a little longer than advised (1 minute). Because your hair is a bit drier, the pigment can adhere better.
Neither Shampoo neutralizes the unwanted colors in my hair, what can I do?
We are big fans of Fanola because these silver Shampoos work! But if you still don’t achieve the desired result, you can try the following:
- We recommend that you always follow the instructions for use. Does it say to leave the product on for 1 minute? Then rinse it out after one minute. However, especially if your original hair color is a bit darker, it may happen that the Shampoo does not completely remove the unwanted colors from your hair. Try leaving the product on a little longer, for example about a minute longer, to see what effect this has.
- Did this not work? Then leave the silver Shampoo on towel-dried hair. Water is actually very important to properly distribute the ingredients from the Fanola Shampoo, but it can also act as a barrier between your hair and the pigment. So remove the excess water from your hair so the pigment can penetrate better. Note: the pigment adheres much more strongly to dry hair, which can give your hair a purple tint.
How do I use the No Yellow Shampoo?
Apply a small amount of Fanola silver Shampoo to wet hair and massage it well through your hair. Leave the Shampoo on for 30-60 seconds and then rinse it out. For the best and most nourishing result, use the finishing Fanola Nutri Care Conditioner.
Please note, the shampoo contains almost no nutrients that care for your hair. Therefore, we advise against using No Yellow Shampoo daily. If you do not use any other haircare products, the chance of a purple tint is greater. If you combine it well with the right, nourishing products, there is no limit to the use of this shampoo.
How do I use No Orange Shampoo?
Apply a small amount Fanola No Orange Shampoo to wet hair. Gently massage the shampoo into your hair and work it into a good lather. Then rinse the shampoo out with warm water. Use the Fanola No Orange Mask after shampooing for optimal results!
Please note, the shampoo contains almost no nutrients that care for your hair. Therefore, we advise against using No Orange Shampoo daily. If you do not use any other haircare products, the chance of a purple tint is greater. If you combine it well with the right, nourishing products, there is no limit to the use of this shampoo.
