Maker
One Developer an activator that you mix with your hair dye. The developer opens the hair cuticles and ensures your hair absorbs the new color. For hair colorings, there are different strengths regarding oxidation percentages. It usually ranges between 1.9% and 12%. The most common options are 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%. With lightening, it works differently and you usually choose the lowest percentage so your blonde color lightens as clearly as possible with as little yellow and orange pigments as possible.
Which percentage of oxidation should I use?
There are different oxidations that help you when dyeing your hair. The different percentages are suitable for different results you want to achieve when coloring the hair. When purchasing oxidation, you should carefully look at the percentage, which is also expressed in ‘Vol.’ or ‘volume’. To clarify this, we have listed the different percentages and volumes.
- 1.5% = 5 volume
This is mainly used for toners, semi-permanent colors, and rinses. It is a mild percentage and often only needs to neutralize the color, deposit color, or add shine to the hair.
- 3% = 10 volume
This is used if you want to color the hair darker or when you want to lighten fine hair by 1 color level.
- 6% = 20 volume
This is used for gray coverage, darker colors, and to lighten the hair by 1 to 2 color levels.
- 9% = 30 volume
This is used to lighten the hair by 3 to 4 color levels.
- 12% = 40 volume
Nowadays this is actually only used for Special Blond hair colorings with a color level 11 or 12. This percentage is used as little as possible because it can seriously damage your hair.

What is the best care after coloring your hair?
After coloring your hair, it is important to take good care of it. Don’t forget to use Toner. Have you dyed your hair from dark to light? Then it is necessary to use toner. This will help prevent copper tones in the hair. Using a purple toner will prevent a yellow tint in your hair, take for example the Lee Stafford Purple Toning Set , while blue toner will prevent an orange tint, take for example the Fudge Cool Brunette Blue Toning Duo Pack . Are you going from brown to blonde hair? That usually causes an orange tint, so blue toners are crucial for brunettes who want to go blonde. Toners also have the added benefit of giving shine to dyed hair.
