How did TOOT! come about?
It started with Karlijn, the founder of TOOT! Her daughter wanted to start playing with make-up; she was seven years old at the time. Karlijn wondered if her daughter was too young for make-up since cosmetics aren’t exactly known for safe ingredients. And even kids’ make-up was cheap with the nastiest ingredients. Karlijn was determined to do things differently – if she didn’t, who would? That’s how TOOT! was born, pronounced “toet!” After much research, she worked with no fewer than one hundred children! They helped design the products because, let’s be honest, who knows better what kids like than themselves? In a learning-through-design programme, Karlijn worked with kids in various school classes.
During this process, the children learned how to brainstorm, think creatively (very important), work together, and finally how to present their ideas. These were super fun and educational hours, and with the information Karlijn gathered, she further developed the prints, colour choices, and packaging! In other words, kids love it!

Is make-up for kids really necessary?
This question is often asked, but it’s not really necessary. Kids love to copy their mums, so little girls often want it simply "because mum does it". A child’s frame of reference is often (luckily) different from that of an adult. We are aware of the world, have seen more, and know the possible dangers. Kids just think, fun! make-up! I want some too! They want to play with make-up, play princess, or just have fun, happy colours on their faces.
However, this is often done with make-up from places like Action, nice and cheap. But how cheap is it if it harms your daughter’s health? Exactly! That’s what Karlijn thought too. So no, kids’ make-up isn’t necessary, but it’s fun! And it’s great when it’s safe Man to use :)
What makes TOOT! products so 'good'?
What actually makes kids’ make-up good, and what does that mean exactly? Good in this question relates to ingredients that are natural and don’t harm the child’s health. Also, these ingredients suit sensitive children's skin. How do they manage that? Karlijn developed gentle formulas for kids’ make-up with top experts in beautiful Italy, containing no harmful ingredients.
They use ingredients that make sensitive children's skin happy. For example, they use fine mica instead of larger talc as baSis for popular eyeshadow and blush. And what about those gorgeous colours? They all come from gentle, natural dyes. Quite different from other brands.
Are TOOT! products also Vegan?
Yes, TOOT! products are Vegan. That’s not important for everyone, but some people really care about it. Offering Vegan options lets more families have safe kids’ make-up at home, and that’s what you want. Of course, these are safe ingredients suitable for sensitive children's skin.
What ages are TOOT! products suitable for?
That’s a great question. Kids’ make-up is usually for up to around 11 years, then kids become teens. Teens want 'grown-up make-up' and turn to the local drugstore. That’s where teens become the lost child because let’s be honest – teens aren’t adults; they’re still children. Which means they still have sensitive skin. Karlijn developed TOOT! so that girls from seven years old love experimenting, but it’s also great for older girls – that is, teens! The design even takes this into account. Yes, it’s a point! ;)
What ingredients are in TOOT! products?
That’s a very good question! We list the ingredients of all TOOT! kids’ make-up so you can see exactly what your daughter is experimenting and playing with. The baSis is that natural ingredients are used that are gentle on sensitive children's skin. Because there are differences in natural ingredients. They must be mild and soft for sensitive skin. Everything is free of microplastics, which is a big plus! This is new territory in cosmetics. Furthermore, it is gluten-free and also Vegan.
They use ingredients not tested on animals, no perfume, so it’s skin-friendly.
Further, the kids’ make-up is free from parabens, sulphates, alcohol, Silicones and developed according to EU Allergen regulations.
According to EWG and CIR, the ingredients score top marks for safety, which is an excellent benchmark.
