Cleansing oil is your first step to a fresh, soft and clean face. This type of oil-based cleanser melts away make-up, SPF and sebum without leaving your skin feeling tight. Handy for your evening routine, great for double cleansing and surprisingly suitable for cleansing oil.
What is a cleansing oil and what does it do?
A cleansing oil is an oil-based facial cleanser that loosens dirt, make-up, sunscreen and excess sebum. Oil attracts oil. That’s why a cleansing oil tackles greasy residue that water alone often leaves behind.
The great thing about cleansing oil is it cleans your skin without that dry, rubbing feeling. Especially if you wear SPF every day or like to wear make-up, you’ll notice the difference quickly. You need to rub less and your skin feels calmer.
An oil Cleanser also fits well with the Korean skincare routine. There, you usually use it as the first step, before a water-based Cleanser. In our Korean skincare collection you’ll find many light, gentle formulas made for daily cleansing.
Cleansing oils are especially good for:
-
removing make-up, even longwear foundation
-
loosening SPF and sebum
-
cleansing without tightness
-
a soft start to your evening routine
-
double cleansing for oily or blemished skin
How do you use an oil Cleanser?
You use an oil Cleanser on dry skin. This is important because it allows the oil to mix well with make-up, SPF and sebum. Gently massage the cleansing oil over your face. Spend extra time on your nose, chin and hairline, as residue often stays there.
Then wet your hands and massage again briefly. The cleansing oil becomes lighter and milky. Rinse everything off with lukewarm water. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and continue with your second Cleanser, toner or serum.
Here’s how to do it:
-
Apply 1 to 2 pumps of cleansing oil on dry skin.
-
Massage for 30 to 60 seconds with gentle movements.
-
Add a little water until the oil turns milky.
-
Rinse well with lukewarm water.
-
You can then optionally use a gel or foam Cleanser.
Do you wear a lot of waterproof make-up or sunscreen? Then a cleansing oil is often gentler than rubbing hard with cotton pads. A product like Beauty of joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil suits a mild evening routine where you want to clean your skin without dryness.
Which type suits your skin best?
The best cleansing oil depends on your skin type and how your skin feels after cleansing. Dry skin mainly wants comfort. Sensitive skin benefits from a gentle formula. Oily or blemished skin needs a light oil Cleanser that rinses well and leaves no heavy residue.
If you have dry or normal skin, choose a nourishing cleansing oil that leaves your skin feeling supple. Revuele Hydrating Cleansing Oil is a natural match because this line focuses on cleansing without drying out.
Does your skin react quickly to strong cleansers? Go for mild and simple. Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Cleansing Oil suits sensitive skin and is good if you also want to remove waterproof make-up. Then check out the Bioderma Sensibio Cleansing Oil.
Do you have oily or blemished skin? Don’t skip cleansing oils right away. Sebum and SPF dissolve well in oil. Just choose a light cleansing oil, massage gently and rinse well. Then use a water-based Cleanser from the facial cleansing category for that extra fresh feeling.
For mature skin, comfort matters. Choose an oil Cleanser that glides smoothly over the skin so you don’t have to pull or rub hard. MAC Hyper Real Fresh Canvas Cleansing Oil and Beauty of joseon feel luxurious and soft during cleansing.
Cleansing oils: explore the online range
Cleansing oils make your routine easier, especially if your skin quickly feels tight after washing. In this collection you’ll find cleansing oils from Beauty of joseon, IUNIK, Skin1004, Revuele, Purito, Bioderma, MAC Cosmetics and Coco & Eve. From light K-beauty formulas to gentle options for sensitive skin.
Unsure between cleansing oil and micellar water? Choose cleansing oil if you want to remove lots of SPF, foundation or sebum. Choose micellar water if you want a quick and light cleanse. For a thorough evening routine, cleansing oil often wins because it really massages dirt away instead of just wiping it off.
When choosing, consider three things: how your skin feels after rinsing, whether the oil emulsifies well with water and whether the formula suits your skin type. A good cleansing oil leaves your skin clean, soft and comfortable. No greasy film, no tightness, just fresh.
Cleansing oils are also nice as the first step before serums and cream. Clean skin absorbs the rest of your routine better. Pick your favourite, make cleansing a moment of calm and give your skin a gentle reset every evening with cleansing oil.
