It is not always easy to get your hair into the desired style. Even more frustrating is when you are styling your hair and it does not give the result you hoped for. Perhaps you are making some styling mistakes that can be fixed with a simple tip? So check out the 10 tips in this blog: from less frizz to the perfect hairbrush. Treating your hair the right way often makes a world of difference!
Tip 1: What to do after washing your hair
You have probably done it before, or maybe you still do it daily: after washing your hair, you wrap it in a towel and leave it on for half an hour while you do something else. Well, from now on, don’t do that anymore! In that half hour, your hair actually turns into a frizzy mess, oops! But how do you do it properly then? Squeeze the excess water out of your hair and gently pat it dry with a soft towel or an old t-shirt. After this, let your hair dry for about ten minutes and then you can still choose to blow-dry it. Don’t forget to use a heat protector. Wet hair is the most vulnerable, so you want to avoid friction (with a towel or pillowcase) to prevent quick damage!
Tip 2: Brush your hair from bottom to top, and vice versa
And vice versa? Yes. Actually, there are two best ways to brush your hair. First of all, it is important to know that wet hair is at its most fragile. That is the moment to avoid as much friction as possible. But also brushing dry hair roughly can cause damaged hair. If you brush to detangle your hair: brush from bottom to top. That means: start brushing the bottom 10 cm of your hair, brushing this part from top to bottom. Then add another 10 cm and brush these 20 cm from top to bottom until you are satisfied. This way you calmly work your way from bottom to top until your hair is fully brushed. Done!
Do you want beautiful, shiny hair? Brush your hair regularly from the roots downwards. Your scalp naturally produces oils that act as a protective layer for your hair. When you brush your hair from top to bottom, these oils are spread over your entire hair. The result: a beautiful shine and you stimulate hair growth.
Tip 3: Wash your hair with lukewarm water
Wash your hair as much as possible with lukewarm water. When you often wash your hair with hot water, you damage the hair. It opens the hair cuticles, making the hair dull, dry, and porous. You lose essential natural oils that protect the hair and the root. Are you a dare-devil? Then finish your wash with cold water. This is a natural conditioner for the hair: it closes the hair cuticles and gives the hair a nice shine. So if you want to keep your hair in good shape and healthy, it is important to avoid hot water and use only lukewarm water!
Tip 4: Use the right brush
The right brush for your hair can be the tool to get beautiful and shiny hair! After all, you use it daily, making it an indispensable tool. It is important to consider your hair type and the result you want to achieve. Do you want to detangle and smooth your hair? Then a Paddle Brush, Detangler Brush, or Looper Brush is suitable. Do you want to curl, style, or add more volume? Then go for a Blow-dry Brush, Round Brush, Teasing Brush, or Styling Brush.
For detangling and smoothing, we recommend a brush with synthetic bristles, such as the Kashoki Paddle Brush. A ‘normal’ nylon or rubber brush causes hair to become frizzy quickly, especially when combined with a blow-dryer. Synthetic bristles work perfectly to prevent this. Additionally, these brushes last much longer and are better for detangling your hair.
Tip 5: Use this before drying, styling, or curling
Apply your favorite heat protector, such as the Redken Extreme Play Safe Heat Protection,10 minutes before you start using the curling iron, straightener or blow-dryeron your hair. This allows the heat protector to be better absorbed and better protect your hair. A heat protector is indispensable during styling. It prevents moisture loss, restores moisture balance, and prevents damaged hair!
Tip 6: Let’s spray
Over-spraying hairspray is a thing of the past. For example, if you use a texture spray, a few too many sprays can already make your hair stiffer than you initially wanted. So spray first onto your hands and then spread it through your hair. This way you are sure it goes well, and you don’t have to worry about applying too much!
Tip 7: Use a good heat tool
Of course, you want your hair to be damaged as little as possible when styling. Besides goodheat protection, a good straightener is also important. We therefore recommend choosing a straightener with ceramic plates. The plates of this straightener provide a constant heat supply. This way your hair is damaged as little as possible :)
Tip 8: Never a bad hair day with a scrunchie
Scrunchies are extremely popular right now. Besides being great for matching your outfit or adding a nice colour to your hair, there are more benefits! Unlike ‘normal’ elastics (with a metal piece), scrunchies do not cause hair breakage. They promote silky soft and healthy hair. It’s high time to quickly get your scrunchie!
Tip 9: Time to blow-dry
Often you think your hair is dry, but it probably isn’t. When your hair is still warm from blow-drying, it is hard to tell if it is truly dry. Any damp strand can become very frizzy once you step into damp weather. Of course, you don’t want that! It is therefore wise to check your hair (once cooled) for moisture and blow-dry again if necessary. And of course, don’t forget to apply a good heat protector. This keeps your hair well protected and cared for during blow-drying!
Tip 10: Satin pillowcase
Cotton pillowcases cause a lot of friction between the hair and the pillowcase. Friction causes damaged hair. Have you ever woken up with a head full of tangles? This is because cotton is a rough fabric. Moreover, cotton has an absorbing effect, while your hair actually needs extra moisture. Reason enough to quickly get a satin pillowcase and maximise your beauty sleep!
