It has a reservoir that needs to be filled with water (demineralized water, because otherwise limescale will form in the reservoir and you don’t want that!). The water in the reservoir produces steam, which is why it is a steam straightener.

The Steampod is a steam straightener, which means steam comes out somewhere. For that, the Steampod has the water reservoir. Demineralized water goes in there, and when it heats up, steam comes out. The Steampod 2.0 has a small water reservoir that allows for one styling session. Also, the water reservoir is not in the straightener itself.
