Lipstick made from fish scales, toothpaste on your pimples & not using sunscreen when the sun isn’t shining – these are all statements you might have heard somewhere. But are they facts or myths? In this blog, we’ve researched the most fun facts & myths to teach you something about the beauty world. Get an answer to all your questions with the 25 most fun statements!

#1 Eating chocolate causes pimples

Even though many girls think they get tons of pimples from that delicious well-known bar with the cow from Alphen, it turns out this is not true. So this is a myth! It has been scientifically proven that the ingredients in chocolate do not cause pimples, so you can happily enjoy an extra piece of chocolate!

#2 The more often you wash your hair, the greasier it gets

If you wash your hair every day, it will dry out faster. This is because shampoo removes dirt, styling residues, and oils from your hair. But also the good oils that your scalp needs. This causes the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, making your hair get greasy much faster. So it’s a fact! Try washing your hair 2 to 3 times a week to prevent greasy hair, or use a mild shampoo.

#3 If the sun isn’t shining, you don’t need to use sunscreen with SPF

Sunscreen is important to use every day, even when the sun isn’t shining. So this is a myth. This is because about 80% of UV rays pass through the clouds. Use, for example, a day cream with SPF so you are protected from the sun every day!

#4 You can keep makeup as long as you want, without an expiration date

You can think of makeup as food. Once opened, makeup also has an expiration date. So check the date on that way too old mascara to avoid using expired products ;) The packaging often indicates whether something is good for 6 months (6M), 12 months (12M), or 24 months (24M).

#5 Running makes your skin sag

Not the most fun statement - especially if you're staying healthy by running regularly! But no worries, it's a myth. If you just wear sunscreen, there's nothing to worry about ;)

#6 Borrowing makeup from your friends is bad for your skin

It might sound obvious, but we still want to emphasize it. By using makeup from others, you transfer their bacteria onto your own skin. This can cause you to get, for example, cold sores or pimples, so it's a fact! Always bring your own makeup stash everywhere!

#7 You can't properly clean your face with cleansing wipes alone

Cleansing wipes are far from enough for clean skin. A lot of makeup residue remains. So that’s a myth. Use cotton pads with micellar water or a good cleansing cream to make sure all your makeup is removed before you can sleep soundly.

#8 Using dry shampoo often is bad for your hair

Dry shampoo is our best friend, right? It’s harmless, but make sure you don’t use it too often. Using it several days in a row is a no-go, it’s a fact. Dry shampoo doesn’t disappear from the hair but can build up around the hair root. Then it’s time for a shower ;)

#9 Twisting your mascara in the tube is not good

It’s definitely not good to move your mascara back and forth in the tube a lot. It’s bad for the brush. But besides being bad for the brush, it also lets air and bacteria into the tube, which you definitely want to avoid. So it’s a fact!

#10 You should never remove hairs above your eyebrow

Luckily, this is not true! In fact, it’s even better for your eyebrow to do this. Otherwise, you’d get a lot of hair above your eyebrow. Eyebrow hairs above your eyebrow grow just as fast as other eyebrow hairs, so no worries!

#11 When you shave your legs, the hairs grow back faster and faster

We understand why you think this, but it’s not true. New hairs are often darker because they haven’t been exposed to sunlight yet. New hairs can also feel thicker because shaving causes stubble. So you can shave your legs as often as you want without worries!

#12 Your lips look fuller when you use lip liner

The ideal trick for fuller lips! By using lip liner, you create a kind of shadow that makes your lips look bigger. It’s a fact!

#13 Putting toothpaste on your pimples makes them disappear

Never, never, NEVER do this, girls! The pimple will dry out, which can cause major 'burn marks'. It can also dry out and irritate the skin around it, causing even more pimples. So that’s a myth!

#14 If you have dry skin, you can fix it by drinking more water

Unfortunately girls, do you have dry skin? You won’t fix this immediately by drinking water. A face cream works wonders for this. In the long term, drinking enough water is definitely a must to keep your moisture levels balanced.

#15 There is actually a difference between Day and Night Cream

At night, your skin is more active than during the day. That’s when your skin repairs itself, and night cream contains ingredients that stimulate this. Day cream, on the other hand, contains ingredients that protect your skin from external influences like sunlight or cold. So there is a difference, it’s a fact!

#16 Healthy eating affects the condition of your skin

Vitamins and minerals in our diet ensure healthy skin, that’s a fact! If you eat healthily, your skin absorbs many good nutrients that make it beautiful.

#17 You can’t tan with a high SPF

Many people think they can’t tan with sunscreen factor 50. Factor 50 protects your skin from 97% of the sun’s rays. So there will always be 3% that doesn’t protect your skin, allowing UV rays to still color your skin. So it’s a myth. You can definitely tan with a high factor, but you’ll just need a bit more patience.

#18 If a shampoo doesn’t foam, it doesn’t work

The amount of foam your shampoo produces doesn’t say anything about how well it works. Foam is created by sulfates, so it’s actually better if a shampoo foams as little as possible.

#19 Rinsing with cold water adds shine to your hair

Cold water causes the cuticle layer around your hair to close, making your hair shine more. A cold shower is also good for the blood circulation in your scalp, making your hair even stronger, that's a fact.

#20 A scalp massage can prevent hair loss

From today you have a great excuse for a scalp massage! Just like cold water, it stimulates blood circulation which can reduce hair loss.

#21 The best place to test foundation is on your wrist

The color of your skin isn’t the same everywhere. The skin on your wrist is often a bit lighter than the skin on your face. It’s best to choose the color on your neck!

#22 Make-up helps against pimples

Of course, we understand that you prefer to cover that pimple with foundation. Still, many make-up products actually make your skin oilier and keep it that way longer. So try to apply as little make-up as possible on that annoying spot.

#23 You should only apply concealer after applying foundation

Fact, this is a good order! This is because after applying foundation, you can often see exactly which parts of your face need extra coverage and attention. And that’s exactly what concealer is for.

#24 Waterproof mascara is worse than regular mascara

Often you have to scrub harder to remove waterproof mascara, which causes lines and redness around your eyes faster. Waterproof mascara also hardens quicker, causing your lashes to break more easily. So this is a fact.

#25 Using make-up every day is bad for your skin

Luckily not, girls! As long as you remove your make-up properly and cleanse your face well, this won’t harm you!
