You can’t start the day better than with the thought that it will be a good hair day. If you’re lucky, your hair is shiny, voluminous, perfectly styled, and you can confidently walk out the door. But sometimes your hair challenges you, and you have to try hard to make something of it. Fortunately, the condition of your hair is very easy to influence. With the right products, routine, and tips & tricks, every day can be a good hair day! Maybe a simple dry shampoo or a satin pillowcase is already the solution to your struggles.
What to do against a bad hair day?
A bad hair day won’t ruin your day, of course. With these four tips, you’ll fix it in no time:
Tip 1 - The satin pillowcase
Starting with the satin pillowcase - one of the things that can prevent a bad hair day. A satin pillowcase prevents friction between your hair and your pillow. Do you ever wake up with a ‘scarecrow hairstyle’? Satin fabric prevents these kinds of struggles.
Tip 2 - Scrunchie
With a scrunchie, you’re always good to go. If your hair just won’t cooperate and you still want to fancy hair, a simple ponytail with a scrunchie already makes you fashionable!
Tip 3 - Messy knot
This is probably no news to you. When you're in a hurry in the morning, a messy knot is the go-to hairstyle.
Tip 4 - Dry shampoo & hair oil
In our opinion, a perfect combination. Just comb through your scarecrow hair well to remove all tangles and knots. However, this often causes frizz or flyaways, and that's where hair oil comes in. Your lifesaver for unmanageable ends! Also, you might brush out all your volume: dry shampoo is the key! Spray a little dry shampoo into the roots of your hair. Often, this lets you style your hair any way you want + it gives your hair an extra volume boost! Inspiration for a nice dry shampoo and hair oil:
What is a good tip against greasy hair?
How annoying - you're already in a hurry in the morning and oh no - the mirror greets you with greasy hair. Here's what you can do about it:
Tip 5 - Change your pillowcase regularly
Greasy hair is caused by friction. Touching your hair a lot causes greasy hair. But also the friction between your hair and the pillowcase causes greasy hair faster, which is why you often wake up with greasy hair. Actually, these are 3 tips in 1: change your pillowcase regularly, wear your hair in a high ponytail or bun to avoid as much friction as possible, or get a satin pillowcase.
Tip 6 - Dry shampoo
And once the damage is done: dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo! The very best solution for greasy hair is applying dry shampoo. A little dry shampoo in the morning and you’re set for the whole day. See all dry shampoos here.

What should I pay attention to when washing my hair?
You can already assess the condition of your hair with a simple shower. Check it out:
Tip 8 - Don’t wash your hair too often with a shampoo containing sulfates
This is probably old news, but very important. Sulfates are cleansers that remove dirt and styling residues from your hair. Sounds great, right? But they also strip the scalp of its natural oils. The natural oils the scalp needs to protect itself. Your scalp doesn’t want to be without these good oils, so it reacts by producing extra oils, which makes your hair get greasy faster. Additionally, a sensitive scalp can get irritated from this. Your scalp needs the natural oils you remove during washing to stay healthy. The more you remove these oils (by washing too often with sulfates), the less healthy and drier your hair becomes.
A quick solution: a shampoo without sulfates! Of course, it’s fine to wash your hair occasionally with a shampoo containing sulfates, especially if you use a lot of styling products—it’s good to clean your hair thoroughly to prevent build-up. If you want a shampoo without sulfates, avoid these ingredients: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS), Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLES), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS), and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES). Brands with sulfate-free shampoos include: Maria Nila, REF Stockholm, Schwarzkopf BLONDME, Fudge Silver Shampoo or Design Essentials. Additionally, brands often have separate sulfate-free shampoos.
Tip 9 - Always use a conditioner
During your shower, apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends. Not on the scalp, as this can cause excess oiliness there. While shampoo cleans your hair, conditioner nourishes it. And where shampoo opens the hair cuticles, conditioner closes them. This keeps your hair strong and healthy.
Tip 10 - Wash your hair with lukewarm water
The warmer the water you wash your hair with, the drier your hair becomes. Warm water dries out because the heat opens your hair cuticles. You can also wash your hair with cold water, but a downside is that it’s harder to remove oils.
Tip 11 - Brush your hair before showering
When your hair is wet, it is most vulnerable. Wet hair breaks more easily. It's best to avoid brushing your hair while it's still wet. Brushing always causes some hair to break, and with wet hair, even more so.

How do I create more volume in my hair?
Limp, lifeless hair - it drives us crazy. Sometimes it seems impossible to get any volume in it. But it’s possible! Let’s start with these tips:
Tip 16 - Scalp Massage
If a scalp massage is needed to get more volume, we’re all for it! Your scalp contains follicles, which are small hair sacs where your hair grows out. Massaging the scalp stimulates blood circulation. This brings more blood to the follicles, allowing the hair to grow healthier.
Tip 17 - Use the Right Products
Creating volume is actually simple, you just need the right products that give your hair a boost. Below are some products that provide an enormous volume boost:
- Schwarzkopf Osis+ Dust it Volume Powder
- Schwarzkopf OSiS+ Volume Up
- Fudge Salt Spray All Day Hold
- Goldwell StyleSign Ultra Volume Power Whip
Tip 18 - The Right Hairstyle
Give your hair regular trims – cutting it shorter creates volume. Your ends are the first to become thin and lifeless. This causes them to break quickly and makes it hard to create volume in your hair. When your hair is trimmed, your ends are thicker, making it easier to create volume. Also, your hair becomes lighter, so it’s less likely to hang limp or flat around your face.
Tip 19 - Never lifeless hair again
