You can’t start the day better than with the thought that it’s going to be a good hair day. If you’re lucky, your hair is shiny, voluminous, Perfect styled and you can confidently walk out the door. But sometimes your hair challenges you and you have to try hard to make something of it. Luckily, the condition of your hair is easy to influence. With the right products, routine and tips&tricks, every day can be a good hair day! Maybe a simple dry shampoo or a satin pillowcase is already the solution for your struggles.

What to do against a bad hair day?

A bad hair day won’t hold you back. With these four tips you’ll fix it in no time:

Tip 1 - The satin pillowcase
Starting with the satin pillowcase – one of the best ways to prevent a bad hair day. Satin pillowcases reduce friction between your hair and your pillow. Ever woken up with a ‘scarecrow hairstyle’? Satin fabric stops these struggles.

Tip 2 - Scrunchie
With a scrunchie you’re always on point. When your hair won’t cooperate but you still want a fancy look, a simple ponytail with a scrunchie is already fashionable!

Tip 3 - Messy knot
This is probably no news to you. When you’re in a rush, a messy knot is the go-to hairstyle.

Tip 4 - Dry shampoo & hair oil
For us, an Perfect combo. Comb out your scarecrow hair to remove all knots and tangles. That often causes frizz or flyaways and that’s where hair oil comes in. Your saviour for unmanageable ends! You might also brush out volume, and dry shampoo is the key! Spray some dry shampoo into your roots. This gives your hair a fresh start and an extra volume boost! What’s a good tip against greasy hair?

How frustrating – you’re already in a rush and oh no – the mirror greets you with greasy hair. Here’s what to do:

Tip 5 - Change your pillowcase regularly
Greasy hair is caused by friction. Touching your hair a lot causes oiliness. Also, friction between your hair and pillow makes your hair oily, so you often wake up with greasy hair. Actually, this is three tips in one: change your pillowcase regularly, wear your hair in a high ponytail or bun to reduce friction, or get a satin pillowcase.

Tip 6 - Dry shampoo
And when the damage is done: dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo! The best solution for greasy hair is applying dry shampoo. A bit of dry shampoo in the morning keeps you fresh all day. See all dry shampoos here.

What should I watch out for when washing my hair?

With a Si simple shower you can already determine the condition of your hair. Check it out:

Tip 8 - Don’t wash your hair too often with sulphate shampoos
This is probably old news, but very important. Sulphates cleanse your hair of dirt and styling residue. Sounds good, but they also strip your scalp of natural oils. The oils your scalp needs to protect itself. Your scalp doesn’t want to be without these oils, so it produces more oil in response, making your hair greasy faster. Sensitive scalps can also get irritated. The more natural oils you remove (by washing too often with sulphates), the drier and less healthy your hair becomes.
A quick fix: use a sulphate-free shampoo! Of course, it’s fine to use sulphate shampoos occasionally, especially if you use lots of styling products, to prevent build-up. If you want a sulphate-free shampoo, avoid these ingredients: Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (SDS), Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate (SLES), Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS), Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate (ALS) and Ammonium Laureth Sulphate (ALES). Brands with sulphate-free shampoos include: Maria Nila, REF Stockholm, Schwarzkopf BlondMeFudge Silver Shampoo or DeSign Essentials. Many brands now offer separate sulphate-free shampoos.

Tip 9 - Always use a conditioner
Apply conditioner during a shower only on mid-lengths and ends. Not on the scalp, as this often causes greasy hair. Shampoo cleanses, conditioner nourishes. Shampoo opens hair cuticles, conditioner closes them. This keeps your hair strong and healthy.

Tip 10 - Wash your hair with lukewarm water
The warmer the water, the drier your hair. Warm water dries your hair because it opens the hair cuticles. You can also wash with cold water, but it makes it harder to remove oils.

Tip 11 - Brush your hair before showering
Wet hair is most vulnerable and breaks more easily. Avoid brushing when wet to prevent hair damage. Brushing always breaks hair strands, especially when wet.

I’m getting grey hair... what can I do?

Grey hair is beautiful! But if you’re not a fan, you can always dye it. If you’re between colourings and want to cover roots temporarily, try this solution:

Tip 12 - Root Concealer
Dyeing isn’t the only solution for grey hair or roots. Use root concealers:

How do I deal with static hair?

Tip 13 - Hair spray + brush
How? Apply hair spray onto a brush and smooth your hair. Do this until static hair is controlled.

Tip 14 - Haircare
Besides hairspray, you can prevent static with the right hair products, like a leave-in after showering or a hair oil that nourishes your hair all day long.

How do I protect my hair from heat and styling tools?

Besides chemical treatments (like colouring), heat tools are one of the main causes of damaged hair. Unfortunately, damaged hair doesn’t heal quickly. Better to prevent it! The tip:

Tip 15 - Always use heat protection
Not the best for your hair, but so fun to curl or style it! You can easily avoid heat tool damage by protecting your hair well with a heat protector. Use your heat tool with confidence and keep your hair healthy!

How do I create more volume in my hair?

Limp, lifeless hair – we all hate it. Sometimes it feels impossible to get volume in. But it is! Let’s start with these tips:

Tip 16 - Scalp massage
If a scalp massage helps create volume, we’re in! Your scalp contains follicles – tiny sacs where your hair grows. Massaging stimulates blood flow. More blood means healthier hair growth.

Tip 17 - Use the right products
Creating volume is actually Si simple, you just need the right products to boost your hair. Here are some products that offer huge Volume Boost:

Tip 18 - The right hairstyle
Get regular haircuts – shorter cuts create volume. Your ends go thin and lifeless first. They break easily and make creating volume hard. Freshly cut hair has thicker ends, making it easier to create volume. Plus, your hair feels lighter and won’t hang limp around your face.

Tip 19 - No more lifeless hair

Does it really matter what products I use?

Nobody has the same hair, every hair is different. That means each hair has different needs. If you have fine hair, avoid dark products. Curls? They’re naturally drier, so need more hydration and nourishment, some with protein and some without. It varies per person, so we’ve listed several 'hair types' with matching products. But all hair is unique, so keep experimenting!

Tip 20 - The right products for curly hair

How do I keep my hair healthy?

And last but not least, a few tips for keeping your hair healthy!

Tip 25 - Use invisibobble
The metal in hair ties can damage your hair, and you want to avoid that. That’s why a invisibobble hair tie is a great solution. Using a invisibobble won’t damage your hair and won’t leave dents when you remove it.

Tip 26 - Protect your hair from weather conditions
