Silver shampoo - nowadays available in all sorts of types. With purple pigment, blue or green. Strongly pigmented, or not at all. Besides silver shampoo, there is a new trend: sulfate- and paraben-free shampoos. Well, let's combine these two! Now there are also sulfate- and paraben-free silver shampoos. What are sulfates and parabens?

Okay, let's dive briefly into chemistry: sulfate is a chemistry of sulfuric acid and salt. These are cleansers that ensure your hair is degreased. They remove all grease residues and all other dirt that gets into your hair. Think of residues from styling products, external influences (exhaust gases), or sebum. It consists of 2 parts, a water-soluble part and an oil-soluble part. The oil-soluble part attaches itself to the dirt. The water-soluble part then ensures that the dirt sticks to the water, so it can be rinsed away. Sulfates are also found in most cosmetic products for the foaming effect.

 

Parabens are a chemical composition of benzoic acid. They ensure that products last longer, but they also kill bacteria, fungi, and molds that try to grow inside the product. So they are actually used as preservatives.

What are the benefits of a sulfate- and paraben-free silver shampoo?

If you read the explanation above about sulfates and parabens, you probably think: that’s great! And it is, but these ingredients can also have drawbacks. For example, too many or harsh sulfates can also remove the good oils and sebum from your scalp. This causes an irritated scalp or hair that gets greasy faster.

 

Regarding parabens: after much research, there is still little clarity. Although parabens are effective, they are increasingly under scrutiny. There are many types and there is a big difference in safety, sometimes more is used than necessary.
