You probably use your hairbrush daily. But let’s be honest, how often do we actually clean it? We do it less often than we should, and that’s why it’s time for some handy tips and facts! After reading this blog, you will always have clean hair and a clean hairbrush!

Why do we actually need to clean our hairbrush?

Very simple? Because there are many nests of microbes, often caused by sebum, dirt, dead cells, and residues of hair products. In the worst case, this can result in scalp irritation. Yes, we know, it’s not very pleasant talk, but it is the reality and therefore good to know and definitely to prevent from now on!

In addition, it is also good for your brush to regularly remove product residues, hair, and other dirt from your brush. This extends the lifespan of the brush and keeps it in good condition! But it also feels much nicer and fresher to use your brush when it is clean.

The most important thing, of course, is the improvement of your hair. A clean brush can pass through the hair better, reducing the chance of damage. In addition, old product residues are not reintroduced to the hair when your brush is clean, so the hair will be more cared for and clean. This reduces the number of bacteria and lowers the chance of scalp problems.

In short, cleaning a hairbrush is good for healthier, shinier, and well-groomed hair and a longer lifespan of the brush.

Time to clean your brush!

First of all, it is important to remove the hair left in your brush. This can be done in various ways, for example with a handy tool. Usually, we just do it by hand, but sometimes some hair remains.

Next, it’s good to remove fats, oils, and product residues from your brush. This can be done in various ways:

  1. Removing resin and product residue: Fill a bowl or your sink with (warm) water and shampoo. Dip your brush in the water and let it sit for a while to let the mixture do its work. Then you can use a comb or an old toothbrush to easily remove the residue. Rinse it with water, let it dry, et voila! Ready to use again.
  2. Removing oil and grease buildup: Make a mixture of (warm) water and vinegar and let the brush soak in it for at least 15 minutes. Then you can also use a comb or old toothbrush to remove the residue well.

If you feel that’s not enough, you can always repeat the steps or let the brush soak a little longer in the mixture to let it soak well.

Good to remember
