What is Movember?

Movember is a worldwide campaign month to raise awareness about men’s (mental) health. The campaign aims to bring attention to prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health issues, and suicide prevention. Many events are organized during Movember to raise funds. The most well-known action is growing a moustache. The goal of growing a moustache is to increase awareness around men’s health.

The moustache

Although beards have been in fashion for a long time, moustaches are still not very common. In November, however, we see the iconic lip hair more often. And that’s great, because it makes you think. “Is he participating in Movember? Or does he just have a cool moustache?” A bit of awareness is already a step closer to the solution. On the other hand, for the moustache men, it’s not always smooth sailing… it may look very attractive, but oh, how it can itch! And how long it takes before a ‘decent’ moustache has grown. How can you best grow a moustache?

How do you grow a moustache?

Growing a moustache is quite a journey in itself. From annoying itching to an attractive moustache and everything in between, it all requires some attention. From start to finish, we have some tips and tricks for you:

1. Started from the bottom
You start Movember from zero, clean-shaven with not a single moustache hair in sight. You want to skip that awkward half-moustache phase as quickly as possible. We’re going for a tough, full moustache! For this, good skin condition is very important. Healthy skin is crucial for a healthy moustache. The better the skin condition, the better and more beautiful the moustache will grow. Our tip: Neofollics Beard Growth Serum. This powerful treatment nourishes and maintains healthy facial skin for better skin condition to grow your moustache in.

2. Choose the moustache you want beforehand
The best part about no shave November: choosing your moustache. Are you going for a rockstar look? Or are you more of a business man? Pick your favorite and have something fun to look forward to!

3. I got 99 problems but my moustache ain’t one
Must. Scratch. Discipline yourself and be brave. The first days or weeks it might itch a bit. The good news is: the itch will go away. Soothe the itch with a beard oil and keep the skin in good condition to prevent itching as much as possible.

4. Just keep swimming
Just like Dory; just keep going. After a week, hopefully, the first signs of a decent mustache are visible, but usually, your patience will be tested. It might look a bit awkward as your mustache slowly takes shape, but we have only one thing to say about that: own it. Oh, did you know that the beard growth serum stimulates facial hair growth? It also increases the density of the mustache. Cell growth is promoted, making the mustache fuller and thicker.

5. Shape the moustache
After a few weeks, the mustache may grow over the lip or not be in the desired shape. Comb through the mustache and carefully trim it with scissors. Note: do this on dry hair. Wet hairs are longer, so when dry, you can end up with various lengths. Also, it’s better to leave too much than too little. We have to be realistic about growth, and it would be a shame if you trim off just a bit too much.

6. As long as your mustache looks good
You’re slowly becoming a full-fledged mustache wearer. As a mustache wearer, you automatically take mustache care very seriously. It doesn’t hurt to clean the mustache thoroughly from time to time. It’s right above the upper lip, so some residue can get stuck there. Brush the mustache well occasionally with water. Keep the underlying skin well hydrated so it stays in good condition, as this is the foundation of a healthy mustache. It’s also good to keep the mustache hairs well hydrated and nourished. This not only ensures a healthy, full, and thicker mustache but also makes it look healthy with a nice shine. The beard serum from Neofollics provides all of the above. All the convenience in one product, very handy.

7. Now we’re here
You made it! A mustache that all men envy and that turns all heads. Style your mustache, for example, with a moustache wax to create all kinds of styles. Keep taking good care of it, and... don’t forget what it’s all about. Ask your neighbor or friend how they’re doing and raise awareness about Movember.

What can I do about itching while growing a mustache?

Itching and irritation can have various causes. For example, the skin under the mustache can be dehydrated and dry, causing tightness and itching. A moisturizing oil or serum works wonders to soothe the itch. Additionally, the mustache acts as a trap for dead skin cells, sebum, dirt, etc. This can lead to a lot of irritation. So wash your mustache regularly and comb it thoroughly; this also stimulates healthy blood circulation. We recommend using a special beard shampoo for this, as these are milder than regular hair shampoo. For example, we have the Dear Barber Shampoo in our assortment.

Which products can I use for my mustache?

There are all kinds of mustache products you can use for your mustache:

Moustache Wax
Mustache wax is a wax with a hold that lasts all day but remains manageable and flexible. The mustache stays firmly in place but can still be restyled. An example of a mustache wax is the Dear Barber Moustache Wax.

Balm
Balm is not only a styling product but also a nice conditioner. It keeps the mustache hairs in check and prevents split ends, but also hydrates! This results in softer mustache hairs with a beautiful shine. An example of a balm is the Reuzel Wood & Spice Beard Balm.

Gel
A gel ensures your hair stays perfectly styled. The same goes for mustache gel, of course. Gel provides a nice hold to the mustache so it stays in place all day. This Insight Hair & Beard Fluid Gel mainly contains organic ingredients and also offers some mustache care.

Oil
A beard oil is specially designed for caring for all facial hair. From stubble to the mustache, it nourishes and hydrates intensely. The Dear Barber Beard Oil retains the natural protein longer, making the mustache stronger and healthier. This oil also has a protective effect for the beard and underlying skin.

Shampoo
A beard shampoo is mild and ensures a healthy, supple, and shiny beard and mustache. The Dear Barber Shampoo is immediately recognizable by its unique scent: a mix of sweet, herbs, and light wood fragrance.

Serum
The very first effective beard growth serum on the market: Neofollics Beard Growth Serum. This is a powerful treatment that stimulates facial hair growth and cares for the mustache. As a result, the serum gives a thicker and fuller beard. The beard care provides clinically proven results without side effects.

Can I make my mustache grow faster?

A dry, irritated skin is not really conducive to mustache growth. So make sure to have a hydrated, healthy skin. You fix this by using the right (mild) products (see above). Especially moisturizing, nourishing products are a must. Now we come back again to the Neofollics beard growth serum. How could we not with the versatility of this serum? The beard growth serum improves skin condition by enhancing the health of the hair follicles so they can absorb essential nutrients.
