At a festival, you immerse yourself in music, fun, and the lively atmosphere. Whether you are a seasoned festival-goer or experiencing a festival for the first time, good preparation can help you get the most out of your festival experience. Because besides all the partying, you will undoubtedly encounter a few problems. Don’t panic, we have put together a handy festival guide with useful tips and tricks for the ideal festival experience!

Let’s take a look at some problems you might face at a festival.

Setting up your tent

A weekend festival starts with setting up your tent, unless you are willing to pay a lot for a Glamping experience. But let’s be honest: a weekend festival is already expensive enough when you add up the ticket, food, and drinks. That’s why it’s wise to pitch your tent early on the designated camping ground.

Often the tents are packed closely together, and it can be a bit of a search to find a spot for your sleeping place. Are you going with a group of friends? Then it’s handy to arrive earlier so you are sure of a camping spot. If some of your friends arrive earlier and are willing to claim a spot for your tent, then you’re all set!

Beauty and outfits

At a festival, you want to look festive. Keep in mind that you should feel comfortable in the clothes you wear. It’s ideal to put together outfits beforehand so you don’t bring unnecessary clothing.

Also, it’s nice to bring a small mirror for your tent, as the mirrors in the toilet buildings are very busy. This way, you can get ready in peace before you start partying. It’s ideal to style your hair while you sleep. You can read all about it in this blog: https://www.haarspullen.nl/nl/blogs/haarspullen-info/je-haren-stylen-tijdens-het-slapen/

A good dry shampoo is of course a must in your festival routine.

Bad weather

The Netherlands is known for its changeable climate, and you might have to brave a festival in the rain. Muddy grounds and wet clothes can affect your mood, but don’t let that discourage you. Check the weather forecast before you leave home. Is it going to rain? Then we have tips to keep you dry and comfortable. Besides a small umbrella, bring a poncho. If you don’t have one, you can always turn a rubbish bag into a poncho: cut two holes in the bottom corners of the bag and voilà! Also, remember not to place anything against the sides of your tent walls, as rainwater will then flow into your tent.

It’s also handy to bring a setting spray so your make-up doesn’t run off your face in heat or rain.

Friendless choice

Festivals can be busy and hectic, making it easy to lose sight of your friends. This can be stressful, but we have handy ways to find each other easily. For the creative among us, this is a fun task: make a pole with nice decorations and LED lights, make sure it’s a recognizable pole. You can easily carry this onto the grounds. This way, you are always findable by holding the pole up in the air!

Find this too much hassle? You can always wait for each other at a recognizable spot on the grounds. Are you really lost everyone? Everyone is cheerful and up for a chat, so this is a great chance to make new friends.

Hygiene and comfort

Spending a few days at a festival can be a challenge when it comes to hygiene and comfort. Think of sanitary facilities, sleeping in a tent, and personal care. We have tips to make your festival experience as pleasant as possible. Not a fan of the portable toilets on site? You can always pack a roll of toilet seat covers in your bag. Also, it’s nice to bring a refreshing hand gel or moist wipes.

In the morning, the queues at the showers can be very long. Consider taking a shower in the middle of the night when you return from the festival grounds. Usually, it’s very quiet then, and you go to bed nice and warm. Ideal for the colder nights!

Less is More

A toiletry bag fills up quickly. Therefore, consider bringing pocket-sized products. Many of our favourite products are sold in 100ml bottles, so check carefully which products are ideal to bring to a weekend festival!
