You see it more and more often: vegan haircare products. Vegan products are not only better and healthier for you, but they are also much better for the environment (and the animals, of course!). Vegan products contain no animal ingredients and are not tested on animals. Isn't that what you want when you buy your beauty products? Vegan and/or cruelty free haircare

Most people choose vegan haircare because they do not want animals to suffer to make yourself more beautiful. Animal testing has been banned in Europe for some time; no cosmetic product (shampoo, mascara, toothpaste, etc.) may contain ingredients tested on animals. Unfortunately, there are still many parts of the world where animal testing is mandatory. To help you further, we first explain these two terms:

• Vegan (Vegan) products = Vegan products contain no animal ingredients and are free from animal testing.
• Cruelty free = This guarantees that cosmetics are not tested on animals. But the products can still contain animal ingredients. 

So a cruelty free (i.e., not tested on animals) product does not have to be vegan, because it may contain beeswax or honey, for example. Each brand handles this differently. For example, Lee Stafford indicates that many of their products are free from animal ingredients, but some products may not be suitable for vegans because they contain beeswax. They classify this as 'vegetarian friendly'. Since then, they have placed 'Vegan Friendly' and 'Vegetarian Friendly' logos on the packaging. So every brand handles this differently!

 

Common animal ingredients in haircare

Want to know what to watch out for when looking for a vegan hair product? Then check this list of ingredients that are not vegan:

• Elastin - an elastic protein
• Panthenol - a form of vitamin B5
• Beeswax - natural wax made by bees
• Amino acids - chemical molecules
• Collagen - a protein
• Honey - a natural substance made by bees

But terms like 'hyaluronic acid' and 'silk' also do not belong in vegan haircare. The only difference is which hyaluronic acid because all hyaluronic acids are nowadays vegan and cruelty free.

 

What are the benefits of vegan haircare?
