Face powder is an absolute must for your make-up look! A good powder that suits your skin type can make all the difference for your daily make-up. Especially when used with foundation & concealer. Just like its benefits, the range of powders is vast with many differences. It’s important to use a powder that matches your skin type, foundation, and skin tone.
Why should I use face powder?
Using face powder is essential in your daily make-up routine. Powder works absorbent. Excess oil (which often appears with foundation) is neutralised by a good face powder. The powder Mattes the skin, making your complexion look smooth and natural. A glowing skin is lovely, but you naturally want to avoid a shiny, oily face.
Powder also acts like a primer for your face make-up. Applying powder helps your make-up stay (longer) in place. With foundation and concealer, you often notice the liquid settling into fine lines (under your eyes or around wrinkles); powder prevents this. Your make-up look is effectively set. Face powder also gives the coverage of your baSis make-up a finishing touch.
Which powder make-up can I find at haarspullen.nl?
There are many types of face powders for different skin types. The biggest difference is between pressed powder (pressed together) and loose powder. The difference lies in the texture but also the effect. Besides that, you have differences in colour, texture, finish and coverage. What suits you depends entirely on your preferences, skin type and foundation type.
Here are some bestsellers:
Max Factor Creme Puff Pressed Powder – A pressed (covering) powder that Mattes the skin but still adds a slight shine. Suitable for all skin types and Perfect over your day cream or foundation.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Powder – A pressed powder with a very natural effect. This powder works well as a primer to keep your face make-up in place.
L'Oreal Paris True Match Blendable Powder – A cream-like powder that blends easily into your skin. It leaves your skin soft and even.
What is the difference between pressed and loose powder?
Both powders have the same goal, but they differ quite a bit. Here’s a summary of the differences:
- Loose powder in your handbag isn’t very practical. Pressed powder is more convenient for touch-ups on the go.
- Loose powder contains fewer oils than pressed powder. Loose powder is ideal for oily skin, while pressed powder suits dry skin better.
- Loose powder creates the nicest effect in photos due to reflection Sing.
- You can bake with loose powder, but not really with pressed powder (want to know what baking is? Read on!)
- Pressed powder usually offers more coverage than loose powder and can help cover blemishes.
Is powder make-up bad for your skin?
Using face powder does not harm your skin. Powder is lighter and airier than foundation, for example. You might want to pay attention to the make-up brand you choose. But at Haarspullen, we’ve already done this work for you, so you can safely search for a powder that suits you. For every make-up product, though: give your skin a break now and then and always remove your make-up before bed ;)
Which face powder colour matches my foundation?
It’s important that the powder colour matches your foundation shade; otherwise, spots become very noticeable. Make sure the colour differs by no more than one shade lighter than your foundation.
Or... you choose a translucent powder :)
Which face powder suits me?
Powder comes in many colours and forms. What suits you depends on your make-up look and skin type. If you have 'normal', trouble-free skin, you can wear almost any powder type. Then you can choose which effect you prefer: pressed, loose, matte, shiny, covering or translucent.
Dry skin? If you have dry skin, pressed powder is best. Pressed powder generally contains more oils than loose powder. It’s best to choose a powder with a cream-like texture. This will make your skin look cared for and more even.
Oily skin? If you have oily skin, loose powder suits you better. Loose powder contains less oil than pressed powder and works very absorbent, soaking up excess oil.
Lots of blemishes? If you have many blemishes, go for a covering powder that hides imperfections. To prevent shine (which makes blemishes more visible), use loose powder with less oil.
How do I apply face powder?
#1 If your skin is very shiny (almost sweaty), it’s helpful to pat your face dry a little before applying powder.
#2 Make sure your skin is clean and moisturised with day cream, primer and/or foundation.
#3 Apply powder bit by bit on your face and distribute it well. Don’t overload your brush, but build coverage gradually. Use a special powder brush. This gives the best result.
Important: Apply your powder as lightly as possible. Have dry patches on your face? Try to apply as little powder there as needed only.
What is baking?
Baking is a technique for applying powder make-up. It’s very popular among make-up artists and beauticians. Baking creates a Matte look that lasts longer and defines contours clearly.
Baking uses loose (translucent) powder. You apply a thick layer of powder to areas you want to “highlight” like under your eyes, chin, cheekbones, and the bridge of your nose. Let it sit for a few minutes, then brush off the excess powder. Baking sets foundation and concealer better and longer.
