Which hair care products does keracare offer?
Besides shampoos, conditioners and masks, keracare has developed two specific lines: Natural Textures and Dry & Itchy Scalp. To make it easy, we’ve put them together for you:
Natural Textures
With the Natural Textures line, keracare created a unique blend of ingredients to deeply nourish and care for your hair. These include Shea Butter, Amla & Shikakai Botanicals, Argan Oil, and Castor Oil, for example.
Dry & Itchy Scalp
This line is highly effective against dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and seborrhea. It’s also great for normal scalps during dry periods, like in winter.
What do the numbers on keracare packaging mean?
You can hardly miss them: the numbers on keracare packaging. They indicate the best order to use the products. So it goes in the following Manier:
1: Shampoos
2: Conditioners
3: Styling and extra care products
The keracare Dry & Itchy Scalp line is a great example: Hair is cleaned with the Moisturizing Shampoo (1), then treated with the Moisturizing Conditioner (2), and finally you can use the Scalp GlosSifier (3) as extra scalp care.
Is keracare Curly Girl Method-approved?
The Curly Girl Method is a hair care routine for naturally curly hair. It helps you care for your curls to get shiny, defined curls. The method mainly focuses on avoiding certain ingredients like Silicones, sulphates, mineral oils, wax, and more. keracare also offers many CG-approved products!
Hearing "Curly Girl Method" for the first time? Or have you heard about it but don’t know the details yet? Don’t worry, we've explained everything! Want to learn more about the Curly Girl Method? Check out our article: The Curly Girl Method: From A to Z.
Is keracare Cruelty Free?
keracare believes animals should not suffer for testing hair care ingredients, and we totally agree! All keracare products are cruelty-free. keracare holds the official Cruelty-Free Licence, which is great news :)
Is keracare free from harmful ingredients?
Most keracare products are free from ‘harmful’ ingredients. They contain no parabens, mineral oils or phthalates, which is fantastic! Most products also exclude Silicones, sulphates, parabens, mineral oils, phthalates or petrolatum. However, some products do include ingredients like sulphates, Silicones, paraffin, beeswax, petrolatum or castor oil. Whether these ingredients are really harmful depends on your personal hair goals. Here are some explanations for two ingredients:
Silicones
Regarding your ‘personal goal’: if you want to protect your hair from heat tools, Silicones are ideal because they shield your hair. If you want deep nourishment, try to avoid Silicones since they form a protective layer around your hair that blocks ingredients from penetrating.
Tip: Your hair still stays nourished if you use a product without Silicones first, followed by one with Silicones. The nourishing product can’t escape because the Silicone layer seals it in. You’ll find Silicones in the Moisturizing Conditioner and the Oil Moisturizer.
Castor Oil
Before discussing castor oil, let’s briefly explain about oils. There are two types:
- Moisturizing oils: These are oils with smaller molecules that penetrate hair well. They hydrate hair and scalp effectively. Examples include coconut oil, palm kernel oil, sunflower oil, and monoï oil.
- Sealing oils: These oils have larger molecules that don’t penetrate hair but form a barrier on the surface. They don’t hydrate but help lock moisture in when the hair is already hydrated. Examples include argan oil, olive oil, or aMandel oil. Pure sealers are jojoba oil and castor oil.
As you’ve read, castor oil is a sealing oil. We recommend hydrating your hair first with a leave-in conditioner before applying castor oil. If you use castor oil on dry, dehydrated hair, it will just sit on the surface and make your hair greasy. This leads to drier hair because nutrients cannot penetrate. Going back to your personal goal: castor oil is perfect if you want to keep your hair hydrated longer, but make sure to nourish it well first with a leave-in conditioner.
Which keracare products suit my hair?
keracare products are suitable for curl types 3A through 4C or thermally styled hair. They’re the perfect hydrator for thirsty, dry curls needing nourishment. Their products maintain beautiful, stylish looks without compromising the strength and health of your hair or curls.
Frequently asked questions about keracare
We’ve gathered some FAQs about keracare. Maybe they help you!
Is keracare IntenSive Restorative Masque a protein treatment?
The IntenSive Restorative Masque isn’t strictly a protein treatment, but it does contain protein: Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol. Protein can be beneficial, especially for damaged hair, but some with normal or protein-sensitive hair find it makes their hair dry or frizzy. This can be a sign of protein overload. The masque is designed to repair damaged hair.
Is keracare 1st Lather Shampoo a clarifying shampoo?
A clarifying shampoo intensely cleans hair and scalp, removing unwanted build-up. Other names include cleansing shampoo, purifying shampoo, deep cleansing shampoo, and clarify shampoo. The difference with a regular shampoo is that a clarifying shampoo focuses more on thorough cleansing, while a regular shampoo usually offers more care.
The 1st Lather Shampoo from keracare is a deep Cleanser, a clarifying shampoo. We recommend using a keracare Conditioner afterwards to care for your hair post-cleansing.
Can you use keracare on kinky hair?
Absolutely!
Can I use keracare if my hair is low porosity?
If you have low porosity, it’s best to use water-based products, where aqua/water is high on the ingredient list. Water hydrates without weighing your hair down. You can also use a light oil. You can use keracare products if your hair is low porosity!
Can I use keracare on relaxed hair?
Yes, definitely! We found a very useful video explaining how to care for relaxed hair. Watch the video here.
