Lice Shampoo - sooner or later you will have to deal with it. Well, most parents. Luckily, many parents know it only by name, but they are blessed, haha. Lice, it’s truly awful! Lice shampoo is definitely the TO GO shampoo, unfortunately sometimes for weeks on end. Fortunately, several good lice shampoos have been developed that effectively kill lice. Some lice shampoos can also kill the eggs and nits. That might actually be the most important – those little pests are terrible. You think you’ve combed them all out, and hello lice! A lost egg hatch.

What is the best lice shampoo?

The most common question, because what really is the best lice shampoo? You get different answers, so yes – what’s the truth? To answer the question – the best lice shampoo can’t be named right away. Combing the hair with a lice comb is crucial in the whole process. Some parents don’t use lice shampoo anymore but only a lice comb throughout the year. It’s just what suits you best. There are certainly good lice shampoos, especially ones that kill the nits and eggs – these come recommended. Many lice shampoos only kill the lice, not the eggs. What does happen with nits and eggs is that the protective layer around them is removed, which makes combing them out easier. However, this does not kill the lice themselves.

What are the symptoms of lice in hair?

This might be the first time you suspect lice in your son or daughter’s beautiful hair. You’ve never experienced it before, whether your child just started school or it luckily never happened before :) Lice can be recognised by these most common symptoms:

  • Itching on the scalp, very common but not always
  • Little creatures that are greyish-blue or reddish-brown. They sit on the scalp about the size of a strawberry seed. They can grow up to 3 mm. The most common spots are behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. The reddish-brown colour comes from them being filled with blood.
  • If you see small attachments in the hair that look like grey-white oval dots – you’ve found nits.

Does a lice comb really work?

Found lice? Luckily there’s something you can do! A lice comb is a real must-have if your children go to school. The best investment ever! Well, in this area anyway ;) Here’s the thing: nits are stuck to the hair with a very sticky substance, so it’s really tough to get them out. Thankfully, a lice comb was invented. It’s recommended to comb the hair every day for two weeks straight. Not a fun task but effective. That’s why you also use a good lice shampoo, because it kills the lice. So you comb them out dead!

Is there such a thing as a lice Lotion?

Besides the well-known lice shampoo and the absolute must-have lice comb, there is also a lice Lotion. What exactly is this? It is a Lotion containing a water-repellent Sisilicone that suffocates lice and nits. This works differently than a lice shampoo. For example, the lice shampoo from Licener anti-lice shampoo kills all lice and nits in one treatment, but is only recommended for children aged two years or older.

Can I prevent head lice?

Prevention is of course better than cure, and if there’s anything easier to prevent, it’s lice. Head lice are very contagious, walking easily from one head to another. To reduce the chance as much as possible and minimise the risk, it helps to wear long hair tied in a bun or braid. Kids play together constantly at school, so it’s trickier. Regular checks are better though, rather than having your son or daughter constantly being careful while playing. There are also preventive lice Spray nowadays, which help stop spread.
