Hairdressers sometimes experienced hair breakage and/or color inconsistencies with clients who had even the healthiest hair. After 7 years of research in collaboration with the University of Ioannina, L'Oréal Professionnel discovered that it is the metals inside the hair that cause hair breakage and an unreliable color result, and not the metals on the outside of the hair. During the (de-)coloring process, the metal in the fiber interacts with the oxidizing agent, which can cause a reaction that results in hair breakage and a less reliable color result.
