What is the story of Max Factor?
In 1904 Max Factor and his family moved to America, where he opened a cosmetics shop in LA. He soon started making products for films and colour films. When film changed from black and white to colour, he created the Factor Color Harmony Face Powder. This was to ensure actresses' faces looked matte on camera. Max Factor quickly expanded and began developing formulas and colours that were glamorous yet realistic on screen. Women soon wanted to look this glamorous too, and Max Factor was happy to help. This was the first time products like eyeshadow and eyebrow pencils were available outside the film industry. Four years later, Max Factor launched a full cosmetics range, making the word 'make-up' increasingly popular. From mascara to foundation, from eyeshadow to lip gloss: Max Factor put the tools of make-up in every woman's hands!
What is the history of Max Factor?
1877 - Max Factor was born in Lodz, Russia on 5 August. He began his journey to create glamour. Together with his own hair and beauty products, he opened a shop in Razan, Russia.
1914 - When Max Factor saw a film for the first time, he felt actors did not look realistic. As a solution, he created the first make-up for film, Flexible Greasepaint, to make actors appear more human.
1920 - Max Factor coined the word make-up and introduced Society Make-up to the public; allowing women to copy the looks of their favourite film stars.
1938 - Max Factor died at age 66. His family decided his name must live on, so his son Francis took the name Max Factor Jr. He had the same gift as his father as a creative make-up artist, so this was a logical step for him.
1954 - Erace concealer was introduced to the public. Originally intended to hide spots, lines and shadows on camera, Erace was the first concealer offered to the public.
1958 - Max Factor revealed the Mascara Wand, the first mascara applied from a tube with a wand.
2001 - Another first; Max Factor introduced a lip colour lasting up to twelve hours without smudging, "Lipfinity". Between 2006 and 2008, one was sold worldwide every nine seconds.
2009 - Max Factor launched what would become their best-selling mascara, False Lash Effect mascara.
2012 - Max Factor launched their ultimate glamour tool, Colour Effect Lipstick; a double-ended lipstick helping women become their own lip artist by mixing, matching and personalising lip colour.
