Nipple care
Nipple care during breastfeeding is essential. Especially when things don't go as smoothly as they should. When it comes to nipple care, you want to use products that are safe for both you and your little one. Whatever you apply on your nipple naturally ends up with your baby. Even after the product has absorbed, so it's important to use nipple care products you can trust.
What are must-haves for nipple care, especially for cracked nipples?
You might be familiar with it, or maybe not yet… sensitive nipples or cracks on nipples. It's common among mothers who breastfeed. It's not very pleasant and often painful. But sometimes you have to get through it. A good nippleCream is a must-have for every nursing mum, which you can always apply. Below are some nipple creams that are safe for you and your baby♡
Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream is a Cream made of 100% pure hypoallergenic lanolin (purified wool wax). This lanolin is often whiter than other brands because it’s cleaned naturally more thoroughly. This means fewer harmful substances compared to other 100% natural lanolins. It costs a bit more because the nippleCream is more intensively purified, but the result is a purer product. This Cream is versatile—you can use it almost anywhere. From dry lips to caring for your cuticles. You can even use this highly popular Cream for baby’s bottom in case of diaper rash or dry skin♡
Lansinoh Organic Nipple Balm is also a multi-use balm. It’s 100% natural and perfect for sensitive nipples but also hydrates tight skin. This balm can be used during the pre-natal period, for tight skin and after birth. It’s less greasy than lanolin nippleCream, but more broadly usable.
If you look at both, they’re both excellent. If you’re really looking for a very effective nippleCream for sore nipples, the HPA Lanolin is the go-to, while the nipple balm is more for general use.
Nipple care when latching during breastfeeding is difficult
Breastfeeding is wonderful, but it’s not always easy. Especially if a baby has trouble latching onto your breast. Breastfeeding can quickly become frustrating for both mum and baby, with all the consequences. Pressure on nipples from engorgement can also make attachment and latching difficult. The breast becomes tense, making it hard for your baby to get your nipple well into their mouth, causing inefficient feeds. This results in your baby getting too little and your breasts not being fully emptied.
Lansinoh offers a great solution for this—a Latch Assist. It helps you draw out your nipples more easily. It creates a vacuum on your nipple, gently shaping it on a soft Manier. The nipple is shaped with enough space for your baby to latch properly.
There are also nipple shields that can provide a good solution. You might have heard your maternity nurse mention them, or your lactation consultant or midwife. Nipple shields are often a good temporary aid to make breastfeeding successful. A nipple shield is literally a little cover for your nipple. You place it over your nipple to give it the correct and comfortable shape.
There are different sizes of nipple shields depending on your nipple. We currently have three sizes in our webshop:
