HairPaste is often called hair paste in Dutch, but it’s not quite the same. A HairPaste is hard to define but shares many similarities with hair wax. Hair paste is a bit wetter and usually has slightly less hold. It’s perfect for restyling your hair throughout the day. Why? Because it’s wetter but doesn’t dry out like gel does. You probably remember those old colourful gels from the chemist. Pastes come in many varieties, so there’s always one for your thick hair. Want lots of shine, or prefer matte? Need strong hold or something lighter? The options within hair pastes are broad. Simply put, hair paste is for definition, emphasis, and hold.
What are the characteristic features of Hair Paste?
Below is a simple overview of what makes a Paste a Paste, so you can compare it easily with other styling products:
- Wetter texture
- Easier to distribute through your strands
- Gives a Matte look
- Can be used on dry hair
- Easy to restyle throughout the day
- Mainly used by people with thick hair
Hair Paste can also be used on wet hair, creating a bit more hold. That’s ideal for slick-back looks and classic styles. Some Hair Pastes add a slight shine, though that’s more the exception than the rule. So check the product details carefully if you’re after a Paste with a little shine. Hair paste is water-based, so it washes out easily. This explains why hair paste usually creates a Matte look, but that’s not all.
The water base means no build-up, protecting your hair follicles from damage. Hair Paste is great for short hair, especially if you want texture with a touch of hold. To achieve this, apply the Paste on dry strands. For a flexible hold, apply it on dry or wet hair, but you’ll get slightly stronger hold on damp hair.
Hair Paste is not only for thick strands but also wavy hair. If you comb paste through towel-dried hair, your locks stay controlled without odd spikes or stray hairs.
Is the Fudge Matte Hed Extra Paste really that good?
The Fudge Matte Hed Extra Paste is a top-selling Paste. That makes sense as it enhances your hair’s texture. Your hair looks much thicker with a powerful hold. In other words, your hair stays brilliantly set all day! The best part is it doesn’t dry out your hair like many other hair pastes.
Is there much variety within hair pastes?
Hair Paste closely resembles hair Clays, but as the name suggests, it’s more of a paste. Hair Paste is less dry than hair Clay and easier to spread through your strands. Hair Paste often provides good hold and low shine. The American Crew Fiber Classic Fiber is a Paste enriched with beeswax.
Is Hair Paste right for me and my hair?
Hair paste suits mostly thick hair. Because it’s quite wet, it spreads easily through your hair. A Clay, for example, is stiff – try spreading that evenly through your hair.
