BIBS Bottle Teat - 2 Pack is a set of two bottle teats for the beautiful, glass BIBS bottles. These natural rubber teats are made of natural material – note, this may cause colour variation. Natural rubber is also called latex. The BIBS Bottle Teats are designed with an anti-colic function. Does your son or daughter already have BIBS teats? That’s ideal! These bottle teats share the same round shape :)

How do I clean the BIBS bottle teats?

Having a baby means a lot of cleaning. This is important because your little one’s immune system is still developing wonderfully. It’s essential to keep this in mind, so cleaning the BIBS bottle teats is a must. How exactly? Before first use, place these natural bottles in boiling water for five minutes. After that, clean the teat before every use.

You do this by placing the teat in a clean bowl and pouring boiling water over it. Let it soak for about five minutes. Then dry it with a clean towel or let it air dry.

IMPORTANT – The teats should not be placed in the microwave or dishwasher. Since it’s a natural product, they wear out quickly. For hygiene and safety reasons, it’s recommended to replace the teat every four to six weeks.

What sizes of BIBS bottle teats are there?

This might be your first time buying a baby bottle and bottle teat. Which size do you need? That’s the big question ;) BIBS offers three ‘sizes’ of bottle teats, and I say ‘sizes’ in quotes because they relate to milk flow rates. What kinds? Read on!

    • Slow milk flow
    • Medium milk flow
    • Fast milk flow

Each baby is unique and has their own Manr preferences and needs. These needs relate to different feeding techniques the baby has already practised while still in your belly ♡ That’s why BIBS developed different milk flows. This flow speed depends on the size of the hole(s) in the bottle teat, which controls how fast or slow the breast milk flows into your son or daughter’s mouth.

Which BIBS bottle teat suits my baby?

Now the question is which milk flow best matches your son or daughter’s needs. Every baby is different, but as a guideline, it’s helpful to use a starting point.
For newborns, it’s advisable to use a slow flow to slow down the bottle feeding – this better mimics breastfeeding. It controls milk intake so babies aren’t overloaded. Smaller feeds more often – that’s how nature intended.

Which bottle teat to use during breastfeeding?

Chances are your baby is breastfed, which makes sense ;) Nurse Kirsten Lise Andersen advises mothers to use the BIBS teat with a slow flow. Babies who breastfeed have to work harder to get the milk – it’s tougher to suck milk from the breast than from a bottle. Matching the milk flow to breastfeeding prevents your baby from becoming ‘lazy’ or even refusing the breast. And you definitely don’t want that!

On average, a baby takes 15–20 minutes to finish a bottle of expressed breast milk. If it takes less time, the flow is too fast.

Signs the flow is too slow:

    • Your son or daughter becomes impatient or irritable during feeding
    • It takes longer than 15 to 20 minutes to finish a bottle
    • The baby falls asleep during feeding (not at the end with a full tummy)

Signs the flow is too fast:

    • Your son or daughter gulps during feeding
    • Your little one coughs
    • Your baby chokes while feeding
    • Your son or daughter swallows too much air
