What is the philosophy behind Naïf?
Naïf has a strong goal: 'changing the world of cosmetics'. 'Everyone is born naturally Naïf: pure, honest, and open. We want to keep it that way. Harmful ingredients, complicated words, and misleading claims don’t belong here,' say founders Sjoerd Trompette & Jochem Hes. Naïf is transparent and honest, so 'what you see is what you get and Naïf is what you get', suitable for everyone. The two fathers took on the challenge to create 100% natural, free from harmful ingredients, and environmentally friendly products. This story began when Sjoerd Trompette and Jochem Hes became fathers. They always knew cosmetics contained “junk” but realised this also applied to many baby care products. That had to change! :)
Is Naïf free from harmful ingredients?
Absolutely, that’s one of Naïf’s main goals! Naïf products are 100% safe for your skin and baby’s delicate skin. They are free from chemical preservatives, mineral oils, and harsh chemicals. The products are hypoallergenic and pH skin-neutral. Harmful ingredients are replaced with natural ones like cottonseed and avocado oils. The products are developed with the environment in mind: no microplastics in packaging, 100% recyclable, refill packaging available, and a strict raw materials plan is followed. Which certifications does Naïf have?
Naïf is a richly certified brand. Sinds October 2020, they became one of the 77 B-Corps in the Netherlands. Receiving a B-Corp certificate is truly unique. B-Corp means the company is transparent, ethical, and sustainable. Its mission isn’t just about profit but also follows the highest environmental and social standards. Examples of other B-Corps include Tony Chocolonely, Dopper, and Triodos Bank.
Naïf also carries several logos representing certifications. Here they are:
- I’m Green Plastic: Naïf packaging is made from sugarcane, which means lower CO2 emissions during production and recyclable waste. Truly sustainable!
- Vegan Logo: Naïf products contain no animal-derived ingredients and are free from animal testing.
- Zero Plastic InSide: Naïf products are free from microplastics, tiny plastic particles that pollute nature, including oceans. Environmentally friendly!
- TriMan: The TriMan logo raises awareness about separating materials for recycling. Naïf’s bioplastic packaging can be separated from 'normal plastic' but can also be disposed of in the plastic container.
- RSPO Logo: Many Naïf products contain ingredients derived from RSPO-certified palm oil, meaning it’s produced under conditions like no child labour, fair wages, and no destruction of valuable forests.
Which nourishing ingredients are in Naïf products?
Naïf uses natural ingredients, is Vegan and animal friendly. The ingredients nourish, care for, cleanse, and make hair & skin shine. Most importantly: they are safe! Great care is taken with product formulas to keep them 100% no-nonsense. Here are some key ingredients (for babies):
- Cottonseed oil: From cotton plant seeds, rich in vitamin E and deeply hydrating.
- Avocado oil: From avocado flesh, packed with vitamins (A, B1, B2, E and D) and unsaturated fatty acids, which help dry skin & hair. Absorbs well without leaving a greasy layer.
- Sweet almond oil Man: The Perfect ingredient for super soft, smooth skin.
- Macadamia oil: Great for dry and rough patches (like nappy rash). Doesn’t leave a greasy film.
- Wheat protein: Hydrating and caring, softens and prevents dryness of hair and scalp.
- Flaxseed extract: Full of omega-3, known for its soothing effects on skin. Helps with itch and skin rashes.
- Shea butter: From the vitellaria paradoxa tree found in East and West Africa. Rich in vitamins A, E and F and essential fatty acids. Helps balance sebum production in the skin. Excellent for skin!
Is there perfume in Naïf products?
Yes, Naïf products contain perfume. Don’t worry! The perfume is allergen-free and synthetic without phthalates. This means there’s a very, very small chance of allergic reactions. This perfume is not comparable to 'normal' ones and is even said to be less harmful for your newborn. It’s up to you as a mother to choose natural perfume (from essential oils), allergen-free perfume, or no perfume at all. You can certainly use the products safely if you usually avoid perfume. Naïf is also known for its wonderfully gentle own Naïf scent!
What does the Naïf range look like?
Naïf naturally began with baby care but soon saw high demand for adult care products. The range is now much bigger, divided into four categories: Baby & Kids, Personal Care, Sun, and Gifts & Bundles.
The Baby & Kids category contains products specially developed for delicate baby skin (including eczema).
