The warm temperatures are coming again, and summer is almost here! Especially for you, we’ve put together a summer guide where you can find everything about haircare, skincare, and makeup in the summer. You’ll read about the latest makeup trends and how to get a responsible tan. Have fun reading and get fully into the summer vibes!

Summer tips: Hair

You know the feeling: it’s summer, it’s 30 degrees outside, and your hair is really in the way. That feeling when you think, “I’m going to shave all my hair off!” Luckily, there are super fun summer hair looks that can prevent this. Below, we’ve listed a few ideas and tips:

Messy bun
A messy bun is truly our favorite when it comes to summer looks. Especially for a day at the beach, this look is perfect. All your hair is nicely out of your face, and you don’t have to deal with sweat. And how cute does it look? Start your day with a nice messy bun on your head, and you won’t have to worry about your hair all day. To make it even more fun, you can style the bun with a scrunchie or a small scarf, completing your summer look perfectly!

Beach waves
A real favorite is the pretty beach waves. You know the feeling: you’ve spent the whole day at the beach, and all that seawater gives you beautiful waves in your hair. The downside of natural beach waves is that you usually only get them at the end of your beach day. But luckily, you can also create them yourself! With a salt spray, you can easily create a beach look at home. We have several on our website, so you can create a super cute beach look even without a day at the beach. That way, you become a real beach babe! Check out, for example, the Fudge Salt Spray, the Indola Texture Salt Spray, or the Maria Nila Salty Mist

The clip
Totally trendy right now: the hair clip! This is truly a must-have for this summer. With a hair clip, you can, for example, pin up your hair or secure it completely. You can take it anywhere by clipping it to your bag or your blouse. That way, you always have your clip with you and can look super cute in no time! Nowadays, hair clips come in all sorts of fun colors, sizes, and shapes like butterflies, with flowers, pearls, etc.

Haircare in summer
Your hair can dry out from the sun, seawater, or the swimming pool. Wearing your hair up often already reduces the chance of sun damage. But we recommend using extra nourishing products in summer to prevent your hair from drying out. A few of our favorite brands have specially developed sublines for summer hair care. For example, Schwarzkopf Bonacure Sun Protect is designed to protect your hair and keeps it looking healthy with a summer glow! Wella also has a special Sun line with gentle products that restore moisture balance in the hair and give your hair some extra care.

Scalp protection in summer
In summer, it’s extra important to protect your hair and scalp well. A dangerous combination is the sun and your scalp. Your scalp is one of the first places to burn if you spend a day in the park or at the beach. A nice cap or hat is therefore not a luxury – 'cause we all know: a healthy scalp means healthy hair! So cherish your scalp and protect it well. You can also apply some sunscreen on your parting and along the hairline to give your hair extra protection.

Yellow tint in your hair?
Have you bleached your hair and do you also suffer a lot from a yellow tint in your hair during summer? That is of course really annoying. Dé The solution for that is silver shampoo! The purple color of the shampoo neutralizes the yellow tint, making it disappear and giving you a bright hair color!

Summertips: Skincare

One of the first things you probably think of in summer is the sun. Being outside a lot, soaking up many hours of sunshine, and enjoying a tan while sitting on a terrace. Make sure you protect your skin well against the sun’s UV rays. Even after sunbathing, it’s good to keep caring for your skin. Every skin type is different, so what works varies for everyone. See below for some tips:

Wear a hat, cap, or sunglasses
A hat or cap protects against drying out and discoloration of the hair and scalp. It also helps prevent heatstroke. Sunglasses protect your eyes and prevent wrinkles caused by squinting against the sun. Recommended if you have sensitive skin or burn easily.

Avoid perfume
Do not spray perfume on your skin when you go tanning. The ingredients in some perfumes can cause stubborn pigmentation spots under the influence of sunlight. Also, your skin can become irritated from perfume combined with the sun. During the day, it's better to opt for a nice deodorant.

Use sunscreen
When you lie in the sun, it is important to use sunscreen. Sunscreen helps protect the skin from the sun. It is also good to reapply regularly, for example every 2 hours. After swimming, it is good to apply sunscreen again.

EXTRA BEAUTY TIP! Did you know that UV rays, sunburn, or basically 'the sun' is the reason your skin ages faster? Sunscreen for the face is the ultimate beauty hack for a young, healthy skin!

How do I treat my burned skin?
Suppose you applied sunscreen well but still got burned. We can help you! We've listed a few things you can do best.

  • Cool your skin! Apply aftersun generously, preferably with aloe vera. Using aloe vera not only cools your skin but also soothes it. This helps your skin heal faster!
  • Keep drinking enough. It is very important to stay hydrated so the burned skin heals faster.
  • Applying yogurt to your skin might not sound appealing, but it is very effective. It nourishes the burned area, cools, and soothes the pain. Apply a nice thick layer to the area and let it absorb for a few minutes; your skin will feel soft and supple again afterward.
  • In a lot of pain? Take an ibuprofen. It helps with the pain and is also anti-inflammatory. Paracetamol also helps with the pain, but it is not anti-inflammatory.
  • For a mild burn, you can cool the skin with a wet cold towel, cooling cream, or an aftersun lotion (preferably with aloe vera, which reduces pain and heat).
  • For a severe burn, it's good to take a lukewarm shower. Drink plenty of water, about 2 liters per day. If it's a serious burn, you can call your doctor.

EXTRA BEAUTY TIP! Beauty comes from within - drinking plenty of water really helps maintain healthy and youthful skin! So:

Drink enough water
It’s important to protect your skin from the sun now, but it’s also good to keep caring for your skin outside the sun. Your body loses a lot of moisture during summer, so it’s good to keep drinking plenty. This way, you also keep your skin well hydrated. Think of 2 to 3 liters per day.

Body lotion
After a day at the beach, the first thing you often do is take a nice shower. Give your skin an extra treat with a body lotion to hydrate and care for your skin even more.

EXTRA BEAUTY TIP! By keeping your skin hydrated (drinking water, using body lotion, etc.), you can enjoy your tanned skin longer!

Tan faster?
Lying in the sun for hours is really a challenge for some. Hot. Phew. Need. Shade. The other can bake in the sun for hours without moving. Either way, a tanned skin is often the wish of many and There are ways so you can tan faster.

  • One of the best tips we can give you is to exfoliate your skin before sunbathing. By using a body scrub before you sunbathe, you remove all dead skin cells. This gives your skin the chance to tan faster in a beautiful, long-lasting, and even way!
  • If you want to tan, it’s best to sunbathe near water, for example on a lounger by the pool or on the beach. The water reflects the sun, making you tan even faster.
  • Exercising is also a quick way to get a tan fast. By running or cycling, for example, your body catches the sun from all sides, so you tan much faster. This way, you stay fit and get a lovely color too! A little walk works just fine as well ;)

Selftan
If you really can’t wait for a tanned skin, you can always create it yourself! With our lovely tanning products, you can have that sunkissed skin you’ve been looking forward to all winter in just one day!

Summer tips: Makeup

A party on a scorching hot summer afternoon... how do you handle your makeup? The sun can melt your makeup, or it’s so hot that you sweat it off yourself. Our tips for summer makeup:

Wear a hat or cap
If you spend an afternoon in the sun, you usually apply sunscreen to your face several times. But with a layer of foundation, blush, highlighter, etc., this is of course difficult. The perfect solution is a cap or hat; it protects your face from the sun. This way, your makeup stays on point without you getting sunburned!

Avoid face makeup
But sometimes the situation calls for not wearing a hat or cap and spending the whole day with your face in the sun. In that case, you might choose not to wear face makeup but only eye and lip makeup. This way, you can still apply and protect your face from the sun throughout the day. Often, the sun gives you nice blushes and a natural glow.

Sunscreen under your makeup
If the above tips aren’t an option, you can always apply sunscreen to your skin before applying makeup. You can use sunscreen as a morning moisturizer, for example. This protects your makeup and skin from burning. It’s still handy to carry sunscreen with you to reapply during the day. That way, you’re sure to be protected from the sun all day long!

Prevent makeup from melting
A hat or cap prevents the sun from damaging your makeup. But when it’s hot, you can still sweat on your face, causing makeup to smudge. The solution: a dry cloth and powder! Gently pat your face dry and then apply (transparent) powder. Powder absorbs oil and moisture. I-de-al!

Mascara
Mascara is one of the most used makeup products; it’s a must-have in your makeup stash. A good solution for smudging mascara is waterproof mascara. It won’t smudge, and your lashes will look beautiful all day. Another solution is, of course, to wear sunglasses—no one will notice ;)

Reduce gradually
If you want to sunbathe for a day, it's best not to wear face makeup. The sun melts the foundation, which can cause blotches. If you need to get used to a makeup-free face, you can gradually reduce your makeup by wearing a little less each day. This way, you get used to it and can enjoy the beach without getting blotches!

Summertips: Beauty trends

Every year there are new beauty looks that become totally trendy. Sometimes they are styles from the past that are back in, sometimes it’s all new. Check out all the trends for this summer here:

Hair trends

If you want to change your look, check out one of these trends:

Curtain bangs
Curtain bangs are still a very nice trend for this summer. Curtain bangs are a bit longer and fall along your face. This highlights your face beautifully and gives your hairstyle a twist.

The bob
Back from the past! But this time it’s a bit messy, for more movement and texture. And an added bonus, it’s a bit lighter than those long locks!

Layers
Another trend that’s back from the past! It’s time to get layers cut into your hair. That way, you don’t have to say goodbye to your long locks if you don’t want to, but you do get some extra texture in your hair!

Big clips and bling bling
No more modest hairpins, but eye-catching pins, hair clamps, and hair accessories. Especially classy and refined.

Hair clip
A nice hair trend that’s still hot is hair clips. They are now indispensable! At first, they were seen as handy tools, and now they come in all sorts of colors, shapes, and sizes. Very trendy for summer! Put all your hair up or just half, both are equally fun and easy!

Top and low buns
The high bun is back! Nice and messy with loose strands, not too 'done'. But the low bun is definitely a winner this summer too!
With the low bun, all your hair is off your back, which is nice with heat. And besides that, you still look super chic! If you want to postpone washing your hair, this hair trend comes in very handy.

Glass Hair
When we say glass hair, it might not immediately ring a bell. Yet it is a hair trend for this summer. Luckily, it’s not hard to create this hairdo: the key is mega shiny hair, and with products like a nice hair oil and a good conditioner, that result is within easy reach.

Skincare trends

The skincare industry is constantly evolving – and that’s an understatement. Every year there’s a new trend or hack. These are the ones for this summer:

The less-is-more approach
Using fewer products to create a bigger effect. Maybe you’ve tried so many different products over the past years and by now you really know what works well for your skin. Only a routine with the products your skin truly needs is the most important!

Sustainable skincare
Social concerns like the climate are playing an increasingly important role in the beauty industry. Recycled packaging, plastic-free, recyclable... you hear it more and more. Many brands are moving towards more environmentally friendly packaging.

De-stressing skincare
Relaxation is central this year, especially after 2020. Aromatherapeutic scents are being used more and more. Many skincare brands will use de-stressing ingredients.

Make-up trends

Want to be totally on fleek this summer? We’ve listed a few trends for you:

Statement lips
A lip liner drawn just over the edge of your lips seems to give a bit more volume. This trend has been around for a while but definitely stays. Also, you can go for a bold color on your lips. Make sure the rest of your make-up look stays clean, so all attention goes to your lips. You’re good to go!

Glowy Skin
A skin that looks oily and shines a lot is what no one wants, but nowadays glowy skin is totally in. Of course, you don’t want this to come from oily skin. You can easily create the no make-up make-up look by applying a light coverage foundation or concealer, a light powder, mascara, an eyebrow gel through your brows, and a nice gloss. That’s all you need.

Blush
Blush looks best when applied subtly. Yet, this year it’s a trend to apply your blush in abundance. Your cheeks should definitely be noticed, and preferably with a beautiful color, right?
