Self-tanners: completely in vogue! Because let's be honest: who wouldn’t want a lovely tan in no time? You’ve probably seen videos on TikTok about self-tanner mishaps, various trends & self-tanning routines. In this blog, we explore some fun TikTok trends you can try with self-tanner. From faux freckles to using baby powder after your self-tanner (yes, really!). You’ll find it all in this blog!

Faux freckles with self-tanner

Freckles are one of the seven beauties. Some love them, others don’t. It’s like: those with straight hair want curls, and vice versa. Some people want to get rid of their freckles and do everything to hide them with foundation, others embrace them. But what if you don’t have freckles at all, yet really want them? There’s only one answer: faux freckles! The TikTok trend of the moment. With self-tanner, you can naturally (if done right ;)) create freckles yourself. You can’t just wipe off freckles made with self-tanner, and they usually last a few days. But which self-tanner suits you best and how do you apply freckles with self-tanner? First, we’ll explain how to do it! Read on:

To make freckles yourself with self-tanner, you only need a make-up brush, the self-tanner itself, and some courage to create beautiful freckles. Cleanse your face well first to remove all dead skin cells. Then you can start with the self-tanner and the make-up brush. Tip: use a stippling brush of your choice. Then gently dot the self-tanner onto your face. Be careful: don’t put too much self-tanner on your brush and start slowly. Not satisfied? You can always add a little more self-tanner. After applying, let your face dry for at least 1 to 2 hours before applying anything else. Letting your face dry properly gives the self-tanner enough time to develop the colour well. Now you have created your own beautiful freckles. You can enjoy them for at least two days. Lovely! Of course, this depends on how often you wash your face.

Curious about some of our favourite self-tanners? For example, the Mr & Mrs Tannie Self Tan Lotion gives a tinted and soft skin! This lotion is perfect for making freckles and achieves a natural sun-kissed complexion!

For a beautiful natural summer glow, Sunkissed Light Medium Gradual Tan is also perfect! This is also easy for beginners and comes at an affordable price!

With self-tanner, you can not only make freckles but also create big, plump lips. Read on to find out how!

Big, plump lips with self-tanner

Want big, plump lips even if you don’t wear make-up? That’s what everyone wants! This TikTok hack has become a new trend. A fun technique without lip fillers or lipliner. Self-tanner is the secret to creating big, plump lips! But how does it work?

First, make sure your lips are clean before you start. Then always check if you can use the self-tanner on your face to avoid unpleasant irritation or rash. Put a little self-tanner in a small dish and dip a small brush (like an eyebrow or lip brush) into it. Once done, use this small brush to outline, or contour, your lips. Make sure the line is neat. If it goes wrong or you go a bit outside the line, no problem! You can easily fix it by wiping it away with a cotton swab. Then let the self-tanner dry well, at least 2 hours, and then gently wash it off your lips. Letting the self-tanner dry properly will give a better result.

What’s the result? Beautiful, natural, and fuller-looking lips! Definitely worth the wait! But this isn’t the only brilliant TikTok hack. You can not only contour your lips with self-tanner but also contour your face with self-tanner:

Face contouring with self-tanner

Thanks to Kim Kardashian’s looks, not only big, plump lips are a trend. Contouring was also a big trend back then. Six years later, and the trend still exists, luckily. Are you not very good at applying your contour every morning or do you just find it too time-consuming? Then we have the perfect solution for you! Namely, face contouring with self-tanner, handy, right? Here’s how to do it:

Of course, it’s important to start with a clean face. By exfoliating, you remove all dead skin cells and the result becomes nice and even. After that, make sure to cleanse your face again and that it is not wet. If you notice your skin is a bit dry, apply a light layer of cream. Decide beforehand where you want to apply the self-tanner, aka contour. You can first practice with a contour powder, take a photo of yourself, and use that as a guide for the self-tanner.

Use a flat make-up brush to apply the self-tanner. Blend the self-tanner on the areas where you want to create contour. For example, at the hairline, cheekbones, and jawline. Make sure to blend everything well for a natural result. Want to contour your nose too? Then apply self-tanner to the sides of your nose with a small make-up brush to create the sculpted look. Repeat on the other side and you’re good to go!

Baby Powder to set

Finally, the self-tanner is on, but of course, you don’t want it to crease or rub off on your favourite garment. But how do you prevent this? You can’t just apply products on your skin while your self-tanner is setting. This can cause darker spots in certain areas, and we don’t want that! However, baby powder is the new TikTok trend to help you with your self-tanner. Baby powder is a product that can be safely applied to the skin after applying your self-tanner. It can help reduce the effect of sweating, so it doesn’t affect your self-tanner. It also helps reduce that sticky feeling, so you can wear your normal clothes without it sticking or rubbing off.

Once you have applied your self-tanner, you can start with the baby powder. Preferably use a soft make-up brush for this, so you don’t rub too hard over the self-tanner. Pick up the baby powder with your brush and lightly apply it over the skin where you applied your self-tanner or where you know you tend to sweat quickly. Et voilà, you’re done. Easy, right?

Rest assured, the baby powder does not change your colour and does not cause streaks or smudges. It absorbs excess sweat and oil, reducing the effect sweat and/or oil has on your self-tanner.
