Self-tanners: totally on trend! Let’s be honest: who doesn’t want a beautiful tan in no time? You’ve probably seen videos on TikTok where self-tanning went wrong, plus various trends & tanning routines. In this blog, we explore some fun TikTok trends you can try with self-tanner. From faux freckles to using baby powder after your self-tanner (yes, really!). Read all about it here!
Faux freckles with self-tanner
Freckles are one of the seven beauties. Some love them, others don’t. It’s like: those with straight hair want curls, and vice versa. Some people try everything to hide their freckles with foundation, while others embrace them. But what if you don’t have freckles but really want them? There’s only one answer: faux freckles! The TikTok trend right now. With self-tanner, you can create natural-looking Man freckles (if done right ;)). These freckles don’t just wipe away and usually last a few days. But which self-tanner suits you best and how do you apply freckles with self-tanner? First, we’ll explain how!
To create freckles with self-tanner, you only need a make-up brush, the self-tanner itself and a bit of courage to create beautiful freckles. Cleanse your face well first to remove dead skin cells. Then you can start with the self-tanner and make-up brush. Tip: use a stippling brush of your choice. Dab the self-tanner very carefully onto your face. Be careful: don’t put too much self-tanner on your brush and start gently. Not happy? You can always add a little more self-tanner. Once done, let your face dry for at least one to two hours before applying anything else. Letting your face dry properly gives the self-tanner enough time to set the colour well. Now you’ve created your own beautiful freckles. Enjoy them for at least two days. Lovely! Of course, this depends on how often you wash your face.

With self-tanner, you can not only create freckles but also achieve big, plumpy lips. Read on to find out how!
Big, plumpy lips with self-tanner
Want big, plumpy lips even without wearing make-up? That’s what everyone wants! This TikTok hack has become a new trend. A fun technique without lip fillers or needing a lipliner. Self-tanner is the secret to creating big, plumpy lips! But how does it work?
First, make sure your lips are clean before you start. Then always check if your self-tanner is safe to use on your face to avoid irritation or rash. Put some self-tanner in a small container and dip a small brush (like an eyebrow or lip brush) into it. Use this small brush to outline your lips precisely. Make sure the line is neat. Messed up or a little outside the lines? No problem! You can easily fix it with a cotton swab. Let the self-tanner dry well—at least two hours—and then gently wash it off your lips. Letting it dry properly results in a better finish.
What’s the result? Beautiful, natural-looking, fuller lips! Worth the wait! But this isn’t the only brilliant TikTok hack. You can also contour your face with self-tanner:
Face contouring with self-tanner
Thanks to Kim Kardashian’s look, big, plumpy lips aren’t the only trend. Contouring was massive back then and the trend is still going strong six years later. Not confident applying your contour every morning or find it too time-consuming? We have the Perfecte solution for you! Face contouring with self-tanner—handy, right? Here’s how:
Start with a clean face. By exfoliating, you remove dead skin cells for a smooth finish. Then cleanse your face again and make sure it’s dry. If your skin feels a bit dry, apply a light layer of cream. Plan beforehand where you want to apply your self-tanner contour. You could practise first with contour powder, take a photo, and use it as a guide for the self-tanner.
Use a flat make-up brush to apply the self-tanner. Blend it where you want to create shadowing, like the hairline, cheekbones and jawline. Blend well for a natural result. Want to contour your nose? Apply self-tanner along the sides of your nose with a small brush to achieve a sculpted look. Repeat on the other side and you’re good to go!
Baby Powder to set
Your self-tanner is on, but of course you don’t want it creasing or staining your favourite clothes. But how do you prevent this? You can’t just apply products on your skin while your self-tanner is setting. This can cause darker patches in some spots—and we want to avoid that! Baby powder is the new TikTok trend to help with your self-tanner. It’s safe for skin after applying self-tanner. It helps reduce sweating effects so your tan stays intact. It also reduces stickiness, letting you wear your normal clothes without staining or sticking.
Once you’ve applied self-tanner, use baby powder with a soft make-up brush so you don’t rub too hard. Pick up some powder on your brush and lightly apply over the areas where you applied self-tanner or where you tend to sweat. Et voilà, you’re set. Easy, right?
Rest assured, baby powder won’t change your colour or cause streaks. It absorbs excess sweat and oil, reducing their effect on your self-tanner.
