You’ve probably heard the word concealer, but what exactly is it? Concealer is a make-up product designed to hide pimples, dark circles and other blemishes. You can also use concealer to brighten certain areas on your face, also known as contouring. Concealers come in different forms, such as cream and liquid concealers.
What’s the difference between a concealer and a foundation?
Before we dive deeper into concealers, it’s good to know the difference between concealer and foundation. A foundation is the Siis of your make-up look. It evens out your skin tone. A concealer is not for the entire face but only for imperfections or to contour. You can also cover dark circles or red spots with concealer.

How do I apply my concealer?
You can apply concealer in different Manys. Usually, the concealer comes with an applicator brush or sponge. Use this to apply concealer on blemishes, red spots and under your eyes. Start with a few dots and blend out with clean fingers, a concealer brush or a small beauty blender. You can build up coverage by adding another layer.
You can also use concealer as a highlighter on cheekbones or other areas on your face you want to brighten.
What should I look for when buying concealer?
First, decide whether you want a cream or liquid concealer, and which finish. This depends on your skin type:
Dry skin: it’s best to avoid cream concealers and opt for a liquid one. Just make sure the concealer doesn’t have a Matte finish, as that will only emphasise dry skin.
Oily skin: we recommend a cream or stick concealer, which stops your skin from looking shiny. For oily skin, you can opt for a concealer with a Matte finish.
Once you’ve found the right concealer, you need to find the right colour. Pick one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone.
What’s the difference between liquid and cream concealer?
Choosing a concealer is already difficult enough, and there are so many options. But what’s the difference between cream and liquid concealer?
Liquid concealer: liquid concealer is easier to blend than cream concealer and has a lighter coverage. This gives you a more natural look. Liquid concealer works best for dry to normal skin. Cream concealer: cream concealer offers intense coverage. Because cream concealers are drier, beware if you have dry skin. For normal to oily skin, cream concealer is much more suitable.
Is concealer bad for your skin?
No, concealer is not necessarily bad for your skin, but it’s important to care for your skin properly. Clean your skin every morning and evening with make-up remover so it can breathe again. Also, use a day moisturiser to hydrate your skin.
