Children's makeup is a world of its own. While adult makeup tends to be neutral with simple packaging, children's makeup is colourful and cheerful, and it makes you, as a parent, happy! Girls love to play and experiment with makeup – it's wonderful to watch. But there is one thing: you want safe makeup for your little girl. The action stores and other go-to shops sell children's makeup cheaply – but is it really cheap? Should your child ultimately pay the price? No, of course not! And we as parents have had enough of that, and luckily more and more are waking up. Mothers are starting to read labels. We're not there yet, but step by step, parents are beginning to check everything that concerns their children ;)
Children's makeup at Haarspullen, why actually?
As you can see, there is a shift happening in the 'children's world' of products. From toys and care products to children's makeup. People are paying attention at a micro level, especially to ingredients. What are we actually putting on our children? What are they playing with? And what are they eating? At Haarspullen, we want to be a gateway for more 'mainstream' families who don’t often shop at niche webshops for children's products. We want to make healthy children's makeup the norm, not an exception.
That's why we added brands like Miss Nella and the Dutch brand TOOT! to our range. Environmentally friendly? Many people care about that – but what about the kids? That's where we want to help. Children are the most important—they are our future. And we believe they should be cherished :)
Is children's makeup safe for my child's delicate skin?
This is a frequently asked question, and one that’s asked more and more. It's a very good question. There are all kinds of children's makeup, but not all children's makeup is safe. Although the market is growing, we're still at an early stage. The brands we sell at haarspullen.nl are safe makeup for children. That’s why we included them in our collection.

At what age is it suitable for children to wear makeup?
This is another often asked question, and the only answer is that you as a parent know best when your child can start playing with children's makeup. You can read a lot and see what others do, but in the end, you decide! No matter what others do or think. What we can say is that many start playing with makeup around the age of two to three. Little girls love to doll up, especially when they can do it with their mother. Kids imitate us, and girls love copying their mums. It’s wonderful to put on makeup together without worrying about the ingredients. Especially at two to three years old, that’s quite young. You definitely don’t want Silicones, phthalates, or other hormone disruptors in your little girl.
Are there brands specialised in safe children's makeup?
Absolutely, and more brands keep joining. Right now, we have three children's makeup brands in total:
Ivy & LouLou – a relatively new Dutch brand for the very youngest girls. This lovely brand was created by Ivy & LouLou’s parents, their two daughters. They wanted wonderful princess play but discovered harmful ingredients everywhere. That’s how Ivy & LouLou was born. You can find this beautiful brand here atIvy & LouLou.
Miss Nella is a fantastic English brand with a similar Situation – reading ingredients in children's makeup. They were unhappy about it and started creating safe kids' makeup. Over the years, they added many products, including children's nail polish.
TOOT! is another lovely Dutch brand, existing since Sinds 2021. Also new! Again, a Dutch mother who wanted her daughter to play with makeup but discovered how nasty most products were. So she began developing safe children's makeup, mainly for teens.
Are there makeup products suitable for children's sensitive skin?
The children's makeup brands we sell are specially developed with ingredients that are safe for your child’s health. For example, you won’t find hormone disruptors in them. Because so much emphasis is placed on safe and healthy children's makeup, it’s already suitable for sensitive skin types. Why? Most irritations come from ingredients that are already harmful yet tolerated. Fortunately, makeup for girls is no longer tolerated unless it's healthy makeup with no adverse effects on little ones.
