What is mascara?
Mascara is one of the most well-known makeup products. The liquid helps to accentuate the eyelashes. The eyelashes become longer and make your eyes appear larger. Mascara is available in different colours, the most common being black and brown. Waterproof mascara is perfect for, for example, a day at the swimming pool or during a festival with bad weather. ;) The mascara stays on longer and ensures that your mascara will not run. How do you use mascara?
The easiest way to apply mascara is: move the brush back and forth several times from the base of the lashes. Do this all the way to the tips of your lashes, ensuring that your entire lashes are coated with mascara and creating the perfect volume. Try to brush the base of your lashes extra well. This ensures that your lashes are lifted and appear much longer. By holding the brush a little longer in the middle of your lashes, you create the perfect push for the curl in your lash. If there is some mascara above or below your eyes, easily remove it with a cotton swab and some remover.
What different mascara brushes are there?
There are many different types of mascara brushes available. Below we have listed all the different types of brushes for you:
Rubber mascara brush - The rubber brush provides lengthening of the lashes. The rubber mascara brush with teeth spaced further apart gives a natural look. Because of the rubber bristles, no mascara remains stuck in your brush. Your lashes are well coated to create a beautiful length.
Hairy mascara brush - The hairy mascara brushes provide a natural look but also give a lot of volume! The hairy brush ensures that the mascara is easily absorbed and delivers enough mascara.
Thick and thin brush - There is also a difference between a thick and a thin mascara brush. If you have short lashes, it is wise to use a thin brush. With a thin/short brush, you can easily reach the base of your lashes. This gives you the perfect curl and your lashes are coated with mascara. A thick mascara brush provides a lot of volume and is highly recommended if you have long lashes. However, it is difficult to reach the base with the large brush. It is therefore very important to see which brush suits you best.
Curved (round) mascara brush - The round brush perfectly catches every lash. The brush curves exactly around your lashes. It also delivers a lot of mascara because it absorbs the mascara well. This ensures the perfect volume! :-)
Which brush suits your lashes best?
There are many types of mascara brushes, each with its own effect. It is therefore wise to carefully consider which brush suits your lashes best.
Straight-forward lashes - For straight-forward lashes, it is best to use a curved mascara brush. The curved brush creates a beautiful curl in your lashes. It also ensures that all lashes are coated and you can easily reach the base of the lashes.
Thin lashes - Do you have thin lashes and long for thick, full lashes? Then it is best to choose a mascara brush with hairy, long bristles (so not rubber). The long bristles deliver extra mascara that makes your lashes appear fuller. The length of the bristles ensures that every lash is embraced. This way you don’t have sticky lashes and your lashes remain nicely separated.
Clumping lashes - Clumping lashes are very annoying, but luckily there is a solution! Use a rubber brush with the combs close together. This way, every hair is coated separately and your lashes remain separated. A must-have!
Short lashes - If you have short lashes, it is handy to choose a brush that is not too thick. With a thin brush, you can easily reach the base of your lashes. In this case, you can choose whether you want a hairy or rubber brush.
Long lashes - Everyone’s dream! Everyone wants long lashes, of course. If you naturally have this, you are very lucky. We recommend choosing a brush that is long and has rubber bristles for long lashes. The rubber bristles will keep your lashes separated and beautifully lengthened.
What is the difference between “regular” mascara and waterproof mascara?
You know it well: you’re fresh and lively on your bike, you just did your makeup and of course... it starts pouring rain..
What now? Waterproof mascara is the perfect solution! This way you can handle a rain shower and your mascara will still stay perfect. Waterproof mascara stays well on the lashes and cannot be removed with water. The mascara can remain on your lashes and damage them. Which mascara will you choose? Waterproof mascara or “regular” mascara?
How long can I use mascara?
Do you still have a forgotten mascara somewhere? Unfortunately, you can only keep the brush. This way you can easily brush through your lashes, lifehack! ;) You can use your mascara for 12 to 16 weeks after opening it. This is because all active ingredients in the mascara can dry out. By taking your brush out of the mascara each time, bacteria enter the mascara. You don’t have to worry about these bacteria right away, as they are not harmful at first. After 4 - 5 months, this can cause irritation. It is advisable to buy a new mascara if it:
- Clumps
- Dries out
- Smells
- Irritates
How can I remove mascara clumps?
Make sure to check your brush well before using it on your lashes. Watch out for clumps. If there are clumps in your lashes, you can easily remove them with the tip of your mascara brush. A cotton swab is also an option, but make sure it is wet, otherwise cotton fluff will remain in your lashes. You don’t want that, believe us ;).
