The body needs between 450 and 1200 mcg of calcium daily. This is quite a difference, and the precise intake depends on your age and gender. During periods of growth and development or pregnancy, you need more calcium than at other times. Children, the elderly, and pregnant women generally need more calcium.

Children aged 4 to 8 years: Calcium requirement of 700 mg per day

Boys aged 9 years and older: Calcium requirement of 1200 mg per day

Girls aged 9 years and older: Calcium requirement of 1100 mg per day
