Which foundation suits my skin best?
Foundation is the base of your makeup look. Foundation evens out the skin and makes your skin look healthy and radiant. But how do you find the foundation suitable for your skin? There are so many different foundations and so much choice. There are a few important things to consider when finding the right foundation: the shade, your skin condition (oily or dry), and the coverage.
Color tone - One of the most important factors in finding the right foundation is the color. Of course, you don’t want your neck to be a different color than your face. First, there are 3 types of tones:
- Warm - your skin then has a pink undertone
- Cool - your skin then has a yellow undertone
- Neutral - then you are right in between
With a neutral skin, you don’t have to pay much attention to undertone, you can have either undertone! A tip in between: when testing a foundation, it’s best to do this on your neck or jawline, not on your hand. Once you know your undertone, you can look at how light/dark your skin is, paying close attention to the difference between your neck and the foundation. Tip: you can also mix different foundation colors!
Oily skin - It is also important to pay attention to your skin type. If you have oily skin, you should go for a water-based foundation. Or use a good powder after applying the foundation. Foundation sticks are perfect for oily skin!
Dry skin - If you have dry skin, you should use an oil-based foundation. If you have dry skin, you better avoid sticks or mattifying foundations. Tip: If you have dry skin, you can also mix your day cream with your foundation!
Coverage - There is also a difference in foundation coverage. Do you have a lot of blemishes? Then you should use a full coverage foundation. If you have a fairly even skin yourself, you can go for a transparent or semi-covering foundation for a natural effect.
Which blush suits your skin tone best?
A blush gives you a beautiful, healthy flush and accentuates your cheekbones. When you use a blush, you naturally want to use a good color, but which blush suits which skin tone best? We help you find the perfect color!
Blush for a light skin - Do you have a light skin? Then you should also choose a light blush with light pigmentation, so the blush is not too strong.
- Cool undertone - You can best use a light pink color
- Warm undertone - You can best use a peach color
Blush for a medium-toned skin - Do you have medium skin? Then you can actually wear all colors! Still, the best colors to choose are peach or coral blush. These colors will beautifully accentuate your cheekbones.
Blush for dark skin - Do you have dark skin? Then it’s best to choose a dark blush with fairly good pigmentation. A red blush or fuchsia pink are perfect colors for your skin. Also, it’s best to choose a blush with a warm undertone so it doesn’t look dull.
How does eyeshadow last longer?
How annoying is it when you have beautiful eyeshadow on and it fades quickly. Of course, you want your eyeshadow to last as long as possible – but what can you do to make your eyeshadow last longer? First, it’s wise to use a primer before applying eyeshadow. A primer not only helps your eyeshadow last longer but can also intensify the color. Alternatively, you can use an oil-free foundation or concealer instead of primer. Because it’s not greasy, it also makes a great base for eyeshadow.
Once you’ve applied eyeshadow, you can also use a setting spray. You spray this over your face, creating an extra layer that protects your makeup well against rain and wind, so it stays put even better.
How do I apply my mascara best?
This starts with determining your lash type. Each type of lash suits a different mascara brush:
Straight-forward lashes - Curved, thin mascara brush
You’ll probably love being able to create curled lashes in no time. To achieve this, it’s best to use a curved mascara brush. A round brush picks up every single lash. Use a thin brush so you can start right at the lash roots.
Tip: Nanolash Volume Up Mascara
Thin lashes - Hairy brush with long bristles
Do you dream of thick, full lashes? Then a hairy brush with long bristles is perfect for you! Such a hairy brush deposits a lot of mascara that can embrace your lashes, while the long bristles ensure your lashes stay nicely separated and don’t clump together.
Tip: L'Oreal Paris Collagene 24H Mascara
Clumpy lashes - Rubber brush with combs close together
Clumpy lashes are easily fixed with a rubber brush whose combs are close together. This way, the brush grabs each lash separately so your lashes stay well separated. Perfect!
Short lashes - Thin (hairy or rubber) brush
If you have short lashes, we recommend choosing a brush that isn’t too thick. With a thin brush, you can easily reach the lash roots. Decide for yourself whether you prefer a hairy or rubber brush.
Tip: Artdeco Mini Brush Maxi Volume Mascara
Long lashes - Long, rubber bristles
Wow, lucky girl! If you have this naturally, you can definitely say you’re lucky, because everyone wants this. We recommend choosing a mascara brush with long, rubber bristles that stand next to each other like a hair comb. This way, your lashes are beautifully lengthened without sticking together. Do you like thick, full lashes? You can of course also go for a hairy brush.
Want beautifully long curled lashes? Then use an eyelash curler. The eyelash curler makes your lashes curl extra well. Don’t use the curler for too long, as this can damage your lashes.
Apply the mascara in 3 layers to get beautiful full lashes and avoid clumps. Apply the first layer of mascara horizontally. Move your brush in the direction of your outer eye corner. Apply the second layer of mascara vertically. Finally, apply the third layer of mascara in a zigzag motion. This ensures your lashes are nicely separated and prevents clumping. Also apply a coat of mascara to your lower lashes. Make sure not to put on too much mascara here, as your lashes will stick together and clump. Before applying a coat to your lower lashes, first remove some mascara from the brush, otherwise you’ll quickly get clumps, and of course, you don’t want that.
Want to get the best out of your lashes? Then use a primer. A primer nourishes your lashes and makes them even stronger. When you use a primer, you also need fewer layers of mascara because the primer is the perfect base for your lashes! Go for the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Primer
How often should you clean make-up brushes?
Are your make-up brushes very dirty because you use them daily? Then it’s definitely time to give your make-up brushes a good clean. The question is, how do you properly clean your make-up brushes and how often should you do it? How often you should clean your make-up brushes depends on how often you use them. If you use them daily, it’s actually best to clean them after each use. But... sometimes we barely have time to quickly do our make-up, let alone wash all the brushes afterward! So, if you use your brushes daily, try to clean them weekly. For example, once every two weeks or at least once a month.
For cleaning your make-up brushes, you can use various products. You can use lukewarm water, a special brush cleanser, baby shampoo, or even olive oil. The brush cleanser provides a gentle and very effective cleaning. Spray your brush with the brush cleaner and then wipe it over a tissue to remove the dirt. Want to clean your make-up brushes with baby shampoo? First, fill your sink with lukewarm water and baby shampoo. Swirl your brushes through the mixture and then rinse them with water. Cleaning your brushes with olive oil not only cleans them but also nourishes them. Put some olive oil on a plate and dip your brushes through it. Then rinse the brushes with water and let them dry for a while.
You can also use a brush cleaning mat. This is a mat with different textures that allows you to clean your brushes quickly and easily. You can usually place this mat easily in your sink because it has suction cups on the bottom that stick it to the sink. Move your brushes over the mat to get them thoroughly clean.
Tip: Wash your brushes before going to bed so they are properly dry and ready to use the next day!
