Which HAAKAA stock?
A Haakaa Breast Pump is a pump that attaches to the breast using vacuum. You do this by squeezing the pump and attaching it to the breast you're not feeding from. This, combined with your let-down reflex, is often sufficient. However, if it's not, a gentle squeeze of the flexible pump can be enough to get the milk flowing/dripping. And that's it, the rest happens automatically. You don't need to do anything else.
What is a milk collector?
A milk collector, also known as a breast milk collector, is HAAKAA's innovative design and the product they've become known for. This is essentially what the HAAKAA breast pump does. This device is used by breastfeeding mothers who don't want to waste their precious breast milk. Instead of a nursing pad, the milk collector is used. This way, all the precious breast milk is saved for the baby.
The breast milk collector is attached to the breast where the baby isn't feeding. This will leak, especially initially, due to the natural let-down reflex. Instead of it being absorbed into a cloth, you're already filling a first bag with breast milk for later!
How do I clean a Haakaa Breast Pump?
This is actually very easy! You can clean the Haakaa Breast Pump by boiling it in water for 3 to 5 minutes. Do NOT use bleach or sterilizing tablets; they are unsafe and extremely harmful to your Haakaa Breast Pump. Haakaa has also developed its own cleaning kit that can be used with all Haakaa products.
What to use for leaking breasts?
This is a frequently asked question, and in the past we would have said: nursing pads! However, while they can sometimes be useful, we now say: breast milk collector! Why? It's a real shame to throw away your breast milk, especially the milk from the first week! This can come in handy later :) Leaking breasts during feeding can be solved with a breast milk collector or a Haakaa Ladybug drip tray.
