For the hair, oxidation is an activator that you mix with your hair dye. Oxidation opens the hair cuticle and allows your hair to absorb the new color. For hair coloring there are different strengths in terms of percentages of oxidation. It is usually between 1.9% and 12%. The most common options are 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%. With bleaching it works differently and you usually choose the lowest percentage so that your blonde color lights up as brightly as possible with as few yellow and orange pigments as possible.

What percentage of oxidation should I use?

There are different oxidations that help you dye your hair. The different percentages are suitable for different results that you want to have when coloring the hair. When purchasing oxidation, you should look closely at the percentage, which is also stated in 'Vol.' or 'volume' is expressed. To make this clear, we have listed the different percentages and volumes.

      • 1.5% = 5 volumes

This is mainly used for toners, semi-colors and rinses. It is a mild percentage and often only needs to neutralize the color, color it or add a shine to the hair.

      • 3% = 10 volumes

This is used if you want to color the hair darker or if you want to color 1 color level lighter in fine hair.

      • 6%= 20 vol

This is used for gray coverage, darker colors and to lighten the hair 1 to 2 color levels.

      • 9%= 30 vol

This is used to lighten the hair 3 to 4 color levels.

      • 12%= 40 volume

Nowadays this is actually only used for Special Blonde hair colors with a color height of 11 or 12. This percentage is used as little as possible because it can damage your hair.

What is the most popular oxidation?

We have put together the three most popular oxidation for you to make the choice easier when choosing the right product!

      • KIS Kera OxyCream- This hydrogen peroxide is cream based. Every mixing ratio for paint and oxidation is different, so read the package leaflet carefully before using these products. The color becomes more sparkling, deeper and shines more beautifully.
      • Schwarzkopf Igora Royal Oil Developer- is the hydrogen for all Schwarzkopf Igora colorings. You should mix this product with the hair dye. This peroxide or oxidant ensures that the paint stays in the hair. Contains oil for hair care during the coloring process.

What is the best care after coloring your hair?

After coloring your hair, it is important to take good care of your hair. Don't forget to use Toner. Did you dye your hair from dark to light? Then it is necessary to use toner. This will help you avoid copper coloring in the hair. Using a purple toner will prevent a yellow tint in your hair, take theLee Stafford Purple Toning Set for example , while blue toner will prevent an orange tint, take theFudge Cool Brunette Blue Toning Duo Pack for example . Are you going from brown to blond hair? Then that usually causes an orange tint, so blue toners are crucial for brunettes who want to go blonde. Toners also have the added benefit of adding shine to dyed hair.
