We all know you need sunscreen to protect your skin, but did you know there is alsoUV protectionfor your hair? UVA and UVB rays are harmful to your hair. The sun can dry out the hair and break it more quickly, but it can also fade the color of the hair. By using the right UV protection you protect the hair and it continues to shine, even when the sun shines!

Why is the sun harmful to your hair?

The sun emits harmful UVA and UVB rays, we already knew that these radiations are harmful to your skin and that it is therefore important tousesunscreen (even when the sun is not shining), but did you also know that these radiations can damage your hair? The UVA and UVB rays penetrate deep into the hair shaft and can lead to dehydration, color fading, brittleness and split ends. You naturally want to prevent this and that is why we offer you the solution with our range of UV protection for the hair!

Is it also necessary to protect the hair against UVA and UVB rays when the sun is not shining?

It is essential to protect your hair from UVA and UVB rays, even on cloudy days. These harmful rays can still penetrate the atmosphere and damage your hair, so protection is important all year round. Actually, the same applies to a sunscreen for the hair as to a 'normal' sunscreen that you were already familiar with. The following applies to sunscreen: always apply it, even in winter, and this is the same for UV protection for the hair.

What are the effects of UVA and UVB rays on your hair?

UVA rays can penetrate deep into the hair shaft, drying out the hair, fading color and reducing elasticity. Because the elasticity of the hair decreases, the risk of hair breakage increases. UVB rays can damage the outer layer of the hair, leading to brittleness, breakage and a dull appearance.

Is a heat protectant for the hair the same as a sun protector for the hair?

No, aheat protectantprotects the hair from the heat of styling tools such as a hair dryer or straightener, while a sun protectant is specifically designed to protect the hair from the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. We do recommend using both a heat protectant and sunscreen for your hair to protect the hair. This way the hair stays healthy, prevents split ends, and allows it to grow beautifully and shine!

How do you use a sun protector for your hair?

Sun protectors for the hair are available in various products, shampoos, conditioners, leave-in products and hair sprays. During the year it is nice to choose a product that you would normally use in your hair routine and make sure that it also offers protection against UVA and UVB rays. For example, do you always use a leave-in? Then choose a leave-in with built-in sun protection. For those wonderful summer days, a spray with sun protector is recommended. You can easily reapply this during the day so that the hair remains well protected while sunbathing!

Apply the sun protector evenly to dry or damp hair before going into the sun. Distribute the product evenly over your hair, paying extra attention to the ends. Repeat as necessary during prolonged sun exposure. You can also use hair care that works like an after-sun. This is, for example, anafter-sunshampoothat provides the hair with just the right care after it has been exposed to the sun, this is especially a must during the summer months!

How can you protect hair from the sun, UVA and UVB rays?

In addition to using a sunscreen, you can protect your hair by wearing a hat or scarf to block direct sunlight. So get out that fancy beach hat! Always try to limit the time you spend in the sun, especially during peak hours. The sun is wonderful and vitamin D is healthy for you, but too much sunlight is harmful to your skin and therefore also to your hair.

Is it extra important to protect colored hair from the sun?

Colored hair can be extra sensitive to the harmful effects of the sun. UV rays can break down the pigments in colored hair, causing the color to fade more quickly. This is of course a huge waste of your (often expensive) visit to the hairdresser, so use a sun protector specifically for colored hair to maintain color integrity.
