You now know how important it is to properly cleanse and care for your skin with the right face creams. But is this enough? Exfoliating the skin has many benefits and is therefore definitely worth adding to your skin care routine. Exfoliating the skin is a technique in which the old skin cells are removed. Do these terms sound completely new to you? Don't worry, scroll down and we'll tell you everything you need to know about exfoliating your skin.
Exfoliating or peeling the skin is one way to remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of skin. This is not to be confused with scrubbing. While exfoliating the skin, you also remove dead skin cells, but then you remove the product from your skin. While exfoliating the skin, you apply a product to the skin that stays put and does the work for you. The skin is renewed and the permeability of the skin is increased. This allows your skin to better absorb care products such as a face cream. This technique is often used in beauty salons, but with today's technology you can now easily exfoliate your skin at home!
There are different exfoliants, each with their own specific effect. We have listed the different types of exfoliants for you.
Besides that your skin is renewed and can absorb care products in a more effective way, exfoliating the skin also has other benefits. As mentioned before, there are different exfoliants. It is important that you choose an exfoliant that works effectively for your specific skin problem.
Because the skin is renewed, peeling the skin also has a positive effect on older skin, wrinkles are reduced. The AHA exfoliant is an effective exfoliant that helps reduce wrinkles. The AHAs consist of various natural acids including lactic acid, glycolic acid and citric acid. The acids help to remove the dead skin cells, bringing the new young skin to the surface. In addition, Retinoid is also an effective anti-wrinkle exfoliant. Retinoid promotes collagen production in the skin, which firms the skin and reduces wrinkles.
Improves acne-prone skin
Do you suffer from acne? Even then, exfoliation can be a solution. If you suffer from acne, a BHA exfoliant is recommended. The BHA exfoliant prevents clogging of the pores and prevents them from turning into pimples or blackheads.
Helps against sun damage
Is your skin damaged by the sun? That is of course very annoying. When your skin is damaged by the sun, the skin is often very dehydrated and it is best to use an AHA exfoliant. The AHA exfoliant improves the moisture balance of the skin and sun damage is reduced.
Reduces pigmentation spots, red spots and scars
Of course everyone wants a beautiful smooth skin, unfortunately this is not obvious. If you suffer from pigmentation spots, red spots or scars, an AHA exfoliant is your lifesaver. The AHA exfoliant consists of various acids, which peels off the top (aged) layer of the skin. The young (new) skin then comes to lie on the skin surface. The skin is therefore renewed, which ensures that scars and imperfections are a thing of the past.
Before you start peeling your skin, it is good to know that you sometimes have to be patient. For starters, it's important that you choose a product that contains the exfoliant that's right for your skin problem. However, you just never know how your skin will react to an exfoliant. It is therefore possible that you have chosen an exfoliant that is too strong for your skin and that you should switch to a milder variant or that you should exfoliate your skin less often.
Do you know that you have sensitive skin? Then start with a mild exfoliant and gradually build up the exfoliation. For example, start by exfoliating the skin twice a week in the evening. Is this going well? Then you can build further.
Do you have normal skin? Then you can almost immediately start exfoliating the skin on a daily basis. Choose an exfoliant with a medium acidity and use the exfoliant at night before going to sleep. Do you notice that your skin is getting red? Then use the exfoliant less often. If all goes well, you can choose to build up the exfoliation further and opt for a stronger exfoliant.
It is important that you keep the skin well hydrated while peeling. So always use a moisturizing cream or serum after exfoliating. In addition, it is also very important that you protect the skin against UV radiation. Because your skin is renewing, your skin is very vulnerable, so a good sunscreen with a high factor is essential.
